Hola people

My mom's computer is 5 years old:
Athlon 1ghz
512mb pc133
onboard crapics
80gig HD

This thing take at least 20 seconds to open firefox

I was thinking of upgrading this ancient piece of junk to a semi-decent rig...

I have a Seperon 2600 64 sk 754 laying around

so should i use the seperon and just get a mobo + ram
OR
Get a P4, mobo, and Ram?

mobos must have on board vid/nic/sound

any suggestions are welcomed

Thanks for lookin
~Higgins

You might check out the for sale section we have at OCN. A TON of people are selling off extra builds they have lying around for pretty cheap.

Building a budget computer can be pretty cheap. How much your mom uses the computer will govern how much you're willing to spend. If she is only going to be surfing the net and checking email, I say that she'll do fine with the Sempron you have. A s754 mobo with video could be had for less than $50. A gig of entry level RAM would run about $110. And a case with a low end PSU would run about $40. HDs are cheap nowadays. You could end up spending less than $300 on a entry level machine - not bad IMO. Or you can sell the chip and get her a s939 system so that you can have a machine for spare/backup parts!

Any 6100 series MB with OB video will work great with that chip.
You will need a little ddr RAM and possible a PS, unless that Athlon 1G system has a 300W PS and has the necessary square 4 pin power connector.
You could get either a 1G DDR400 or 2x512 low end stuff for around $95 with a little looking.

Thanks for the reply's guys.

Im just going to swap out the mobo/CPU/RAM and keep everything else in there.

BTW its a old compaq presario... so, no OCing here =\\

I have a few 20+4 PSUs laying around i can put in there.

Any one got like 512 DDr memory? PM me if you do.

Ok, all i'd need would be a Mini ATX sk 754 mobo w/on board everything...
Suggestions?
