Keep in mind, price is probably the worst way to determine a headphones worth. Otherwise we would all be buying beats headphones.
That is true, but price also often reflects the overall quality and performance of the product. That's also the reason we dont buy 10$ Logitech headsets for gaming. But as far as the input on the headphones go, I wouldnt know because I havent heard them.

Im gonna head down to the store today and try on the 598 ams the q701. If the bumps on the headband dont bother me i will go with the q701. Will my soundcard be adequate to push the q701? (Sound blaster Z)

I dont know how much they are where you are but i was very impressed today with the Beyerdynamic Tesla T5p. I basically went to a shop today that only sold headphones and amps and T5p were a surprise packet. And i pretty much tried anything $500 and above and only 5 - 6 headphones i remember and they were up there and i was looking at HD800's, Grado PS1000.

Don't use the Q701 or DT880 for competitive FPS. I own both, and I still turn to my trusty Sennheiser HD590s every time over both of those.

If I had a choice between the Q701 or DT880 (mine are the 600Ω Premium), I would go for the DT880s in a heartbeat.

Positioning sucks on all of those headphones, really bad.

Why? Mine are incredible for gaming. You will need the right card though. Possibly op amps as well, as the stock STX/TiHD ones are a bit meh.

AD700's are still the best budget gaming headphone available. I bet Audio-Technica have made a killing (smirk)

if its between the 558 and the 598 I would get the former they have the same drivers and there is not a whole bunch of difference between the two, there are a couple of mods to make the 558 more open than the 598.

I would vote for the new k702 the 65th annie wink.gif apparently they are tweaked to sound better.

You probably prefer a smaller more up front sound stage as opposed to the exaggerated sound stage of the Q701s and AD700s.

I just got back from the store and they had the Q701's and the HD598's on display to try out, and as soon as i put the 701's on they felt uncomfortable. It wasn't the headband, infact i found the headband fine, it was the ear cups that were abnormally large and forced my ears in an odd position. I tried the 598's on too and they were veryyyy comfortable and sounded great, not as good as the Q701's but much more comfortable. Is it worth it to go to another store to try out the AD900's and the beyerdynamics or should i just go for the 598's?

Well the cups should have been fine. You might want to go back and check if someone didn't F them up. The cups can come off for maintenance purposes, but some people will take them off and then not put them back in the correct orientation. At that point they are going to feel weird.

I also attest that it would be worth trying the ath ad 900s. They are very comfy......like I have been saying all along. tongue.gif
