i am running @ 2.75 and have been over three weeks no sweat my max temp with cnps 9500 is 52c durring the day time ... at night i hit 49c ... i have a divider on my ram 5/6.. my vcore is at 1.5 i was wondering if i could or should go up to 1.55 or 1.575 to see if this thing can handle 2.8ghz it ..i try it and with the current settings i log on and i run prime and get on the net while it is running open programs and bang blue screen of death!

also i was wondering if you guys think msi k8n neo 4 platinum can handle it if it were to get up to 2.8.. since my voltage would be in the red warning color on my bios.... thanx you can see my specs below

P.S. thanx tubnottub1

I don't kno the mobo personally but you should try lowering the VCore and see if it works out since you usually have to "warm up" the transistors on the CPU die. I wouldn't push it though without some upgraded cooling. Try seeing if you can push the FSB farther though before you start playing with VCore though.

No problem! As for trying to hit 2.8, If you are already hitting load temps of 52c I wouldnt suggest raising the clock/voltage at all. Most likely your computer is BSOD because of the amount of heat that is being produced. You might consider getting some better cooling (You would be looking at something like a Tuniq or watercooling). Im not sure about the MSI being able to handle that High of a FSB, however, if you think its the Mobo holding you back you can try increasing the NorthBridge Voltage.Good luck!

what kind of water cooling do you think will do .. if i go water i am doing the whole thing. cpu, vga, and northbridge...looking at reserator 2 or exos... leaning towards resorator by zalman since it is a little less expensive.. and comes with blocks...

do you think better cooling 2.8 is done deal... cause i would really like to hit 2.9 thankz

I wish I could tell you, but I have never used that particular board. I can tell you however, that with watercooling, your temps will not be holding you back. Keep in mind though, that is one hell of an overclock you already have! Good job!

Lol... Man welcome to OCing. The 9500 is a great HSF but there is better out there. There is the Tuniq Tower or the Big Typhoon VX(can't be found on newegg at the moment). In terms of water, you don't need to water-cool your northbridge. It's a waste of water more or less. This will be much better for your Northbridge. I would recommend upgrading the MSI though since they aren't known to be the greatest Overclockers... This WC Kit should do the trick though but I would hit it up in the WC forums and ask about a custom setup. Just name a price(resonable) and chances are they can match it! For now, 2.7Ghz is a great OC. Most Manchesters get around a 500-600Mhz OC so we're both doing great! PM me if you need more help or have any other questions.

Naw something is definitely wrong...CNPS 9500 with load temps of 52?!!!
AT 1.5v?!
Did you flash to the newest BIOS dude? Cause MSI is notorious for the temps getting corrected in their BIOS revisions.
I was actually going through some old disks I made for my NEO4-F (Platinum BIOS)...when I find the BIOS files I'll let you know.

yea man 52!..... i did some reading and thermal shutdown is at 65,,and yea i do have the latest bios.. did a flash with the msi live update it was really easy... but about the overclocking i don't want to increase volts anymore.... beret 9987... dude i have been doing some research and i am pretty sure i will be going with the danger den 4200 kit... i will be getting it in january .. christmas and all ... dude i would love to hit 3.0.. lets see how it goes.. good luck with yours aswell... just to let you know .. i did bring my vcore to 1.45 and 275 x 10 = 275ghz was not stable only stable with 1.5... so i am positive if i throw more volts at it ., it will climb...thanx for the advice everyone.. it is with great regret and sarrow that i pause my overclocking endeavors... DDDAAAAAAMBBBITTT!!!!!!!!... oh well january here we come.

two more questions though and i will go to bed....just wondering... okay..
1 i have the thermall greese that came with the zalman on ... is arctic a big difference
2 if so .. i could probly try 1.5 or 1.6 volts ...yet they are in red for that high a volt on my motherbaord ,,, does this mean the board can't hack it or does it mean nothing cause in ati tool for example .. i raise volts and it tells me it is really high yet it is cool and stable.. thanx and good night.
