help getting started cable sleeving

Thread Starter
im plan on sleeving all visable wires in my case;
24, 8, 6 pin power cables, all wires individually
SATA data cables
pwr button, HDD LED, etc. wires running to mobo headers
fan wires( they are already sleeved in black, but im going green on everything)
i have Cougar fans, can/should i strip the current sleeving off or just go over it?
im going to buy extensions for the 24, 6, and 8 pin wires incase i screw something up smile.gif

im looking at:
http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=44_916_227
http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=44_32_917
UV green for sleeving and UV orange for heatshrink (anyone think thats ugly or should i just go green all the way?

so my main questions are:
what size sleeving and heatshrink works with whick AWG wires?
suggestions on good sleeving/heatshrink products?
what colors do you think would look good with my components? ( i know everything got all missmatched after my last upgrade, green, blue, orange(cougar fans and PSU), even a little yellow/gold on mobo and cooler) smile.gif

this is the rig on my profile if anyone is curious about hardware

also some components will be different by the time im done;
getting rid of stock fans especially blue led ones, going all cougar 120 or 140 black
will be adding LED strips once i decide on color scheme(with on/off switch of course)
and i think im going to paint my PSU a solid black(unless someone has a reason to advise against it)

P.S.
haha before anyone can call me on it, i know my cable management is crap right now, im waiting till i get all my fans in to finalize on it, so no poking fun

lol nice cable management.

Also, after looking at the pictures I think it wouldn't look too bad if you went with yellow, green, and black.

Of course other than that I know nothing about sleeving. Good luck though. I'm sure it will end up looking really nice.

I found this last night as I am just starting out also. It answered quite alot
of the questions both of us are asking and the videos are very very good. For me easy to follow.
I can not wait to get my tools begin.
Hope this helps you as it did me.

Your wiring looks good. Can't wait to see what you end up with thumb.gif

I've read through that post and the only sizes I found were suggestions to use 1/4 3:1 shrink. I'm wondering what size sleeves work best with which gauge wires. I'm surprised no one has made a suggested chart. Maybe after I mess with it for a while I'll make one. It would also be helpfully to see the sleeving (in person) before I buy it.
Also just for an update I decided to go with UV green all the way and some green leds. I'll be posting pictures as I gt more done.

You're right, FAQ doesn't explicitly mention wire gauge. The original Molex brand connectors are rated for AWG 18, so all sleeving follows that. The exception is Paracord which is designed for parachutes and only by coincidence is suitable for sleeving PC cables.

Lutro0's explained in videos, tools, wiring, how to, where to buy and the frequently asked question section
From what i can tell it not an exact science. He has made it easy for us to follow him on this journey,
we just have to be willing to use the knowledge that he has provided and to change it to work for our needs.

I am still just amazed at the results. I am trying to get a couple of my friends interested in sleeving,
by sending them pictures and the logs people have made. I have to get a few tools to start with, and
right now my money is tied up in a new build.
I do not even know how to take apart a molex adapter...lol

I am going to start with sata cable. I have 4 hard drives on top of each other and a molex end for power.
I went out and bought a premade cable for 10.00 and it does not work, so there is the price of one tool.
I bent cable so much it started to separate as I was bending it to fit.

This is where I will be asking the questions when I start.

Here are a few links that I came across here in the forum. Maybe you can use them.
