But this isn't a thread about 7970 vs GTX 680, it's about new ASUS 7970's.
No your looking at the beefed up GHz edition. Look at the regular 7970 compared to the regular 680. 680 wins.

690 runs two downclocked chips(915 from 1006, 1019 boost from 1058), it is 5% slower than 680 SLI, it is about as fast as 670 SLI actually.

7970 is still cheaper.
I saw it on sale at NCIX Canada. They had the regular MSi 3GB for $330 when I bought it, and I've seen the GHz for $350. Futureshop.ca had a 680 for $400. I keep track of prices

Ahh I see, I was going by NewEgg.com - cheapest GHZ edition is $450.

Were those sales Boxing week sales or something?

Future Shop has some ridiculous prices on the 680
http://www.futureshop.ca/Search/SearchResults.aspx?path=ca77b9b4beca91fe414314b86bb581f8en20&q=gtx%2520680&sp=FS_en-CA_Site-WideSP&Category=EntireSite&targetCategory=EntireSite&pcname=MCCPCatalog&AllowSecure=True

Just because they were on sale at that price once upon a time, doesn't mean that's how much they always are.

IMO, neither side should claim that X card "destroys" Y card, this generation is so close performance wise.

It's not a GTX 580 vs 6970 type of match up this time around.

Anyway, can we get back to the ARES II?

i got my 7970 (non ghz ed) for 330 at microcenter like 8 months ago. crazy steal if you ask me. if you know where to look, occasionally those places will offer some great deals. i cant believe this dude is still defending his 690. we get it. you made your bed now you gotta sleep in it.

Let's go back shall we? The Ares II is a two "beefed up" 7970s, the 690 is two regular downclocked 680s. So if two "beefed up" 7970s beat two regular 680s, then Ares II beats 690. Make sense?

I've seen a single HD 7970 in action. I sold it as fast as I bought it. This is just a beast of microstutter.

Multi-monitor...multi-GPU. Nvidia wins... It's not even close. Forget the benchmarks...just a smoother, superior experience with nvidia.

I just bought BF3 premium last night...played about 4 hours. Superb experience with SLI and triple monitors. Nice and smooth... excellent framerates. Wasting time with a double HD 7970 is just doubling your microstutter IMO.
