What would you want in a CaseLabs Mini-ITX case?

Thread Starter
Hi Everyone,

We've been asked a zillion times about SFF cases tongue.gif so I've been playing around with a couple of possible ITX layouts. I have no desire to recreate what has already been done. What would you like to see that hasn't been done so far. I'm more concerned about the elite 1% of the market that you guys represent. The other 99% will be happy with the sub $100 mass market offerings.

Thanks! cheers.gif

Jim

I think a lot a ITX cases are normally out in the open on a desk or on display in a home theater so external appearances are very important I would think. Also with general Case Labs fashion it would need room for water cooling biggrin.gif

The best idea though would be the ability to install the ITX case within an existing Case Labs case. A lot of the 1% buyers already have multiple systems anyways. It would be a good play off the adaptability and the expansion options the current Case Labs line-up offers. It would be nice to have a tubing ports so you could install quick disconnects in an existing loop and then if you wanted to add an ITX setup, just hook it up to the quick disconnects and you have a watercooled ITX case. Mounting could be done through the existing flex bays.

Just throwing out ideas that I think would be cool so go easy on the criticism guys thumb.gif

2x240/280 rads, 2 ssd mounts, 1HD mount, support for a dual GPU card like a 690. 1 medium size PSU e.g. AX850 (i.e. no need for something long e.g. no st1500/ax1200 support). And basically no more than that, it's gotta be small given the above biggrin.gif

Thanks for the input guys! thumb.gif Hopefully, more will jump in.

I would still like to have some kind of ITX "piggy-back" for our existing cases, but for now, I'm looking at a separate case. It will have to be much smaller than the SM5 but will still probably be on the "large" side wink.gif Support for standard PSU (I agree - no need for 1200+) and full length GPU with some kind of W/C support - Probably 240/280.

Wouldn't mind to see something small, with decent airflow and cable management options. It would have to compete with my FT03B-Mini tongue.gif

With mITX, there are two ways to go....a gaming performance case and a NAS case.

On the NAS side.... look at how popular the Fractal Node 304 is. I would love something like mITX, standard PSU, 8-12 3.5" HDDs.... and small as possible.

With mITX, you can get really creative.
Once again...

A horizontal case with the world famous CL slide out board tray that one can possibly fit in an entertainment center.

I think an ITX tower would be redundant with the recent release of the SM5.

There may be some that want support for a 3 slotter card like the powerdevil 7990. I would prefer not to though I have to admit.

Yes if it was dual purpose (rotatable tower into HTPC) that would be cool. Maybe only 1-2 flexbays therefore that can be rotated 90 degrees?

I wouldn't bother supporting thick rads with push/pull either. Either one fan and 60mm radiator or a thin rad ~35mm with push/pull.

Maybe also support for a thin dvd/blu-ray drive when the flexbays are used for a front mounted 240?

I would disagree, the SM5 is still big. (Bigger than many mid-tower ATX cases and not much smaller than the M8 at all)

I'm gonna go draft something in sketch-up

i want a case as small as the silverstone sg05 or sg07, make it taller to have a basement/pedestal, which can house 2x 240mm or 2x 360mm radiator. that would be epic.

i am actually thinking about getting a custom made pedestal for my sg08, but a built in/integrated basement is better.

3 slots wouldn't be a problem with the MB layout I have in mind (and would want enough clearance for air cooled cards to work properly anyway). With the layout I have in mind, I *think* it will convert nicely between NAS and Gaming rig.
