What would you want in a CaseLabs Mini-ITX case? - Page 3

There is no question that the "S3" (let's call it that for now) would be a large case by ITX standards. It would still be substantially smaller (and more portable) then the SM5. Up until recently, ITX boards were pretty vanilla, but now we're seeing enthusiast grade boards with increased cooling requirements. The S3 would not be a mainstream case by any measure, but there isn't much point in simply recreating what's been done in the mainstream market.

Thanks so much for devoting the time to a less mainstream market that is now very practical! About how large do you think the "S3" would be compared to something like an Silverstone SG05 (11x7x8) or a Bitfenix Prodigy (Big, don't remember actual dimensions)? Again, good to see a manufacturer that can get so in touch with its customers and is willing to occupy such as niche.

Can you make a case like Prodigy in full aluminum? Or Design similar to G4 Mac case? Please please please!

I guarantee you that won't happen. For a start Jim doesn't copy mainstream cases, and CaseLabs aesthetic is very different to those smile.gif

I know this will still be bigger than I want it to be, but I'm still excited. I'm guessing it will end up the size that I expected the SM5 to be wink.gif

Yeah I know but they can try, it doesn't have to be Prodigy but it can copy G5 Mac in their Caselabs style.

The Compact Splash seems really well designed and about the lower size limit for a mITX water cooled case.

I think anything CaseLabs does which comes out larger would need to have a good reason for being larger. For example the Compact Splash explicitly does not accommodate ATX PSUs because of the size penalty over SFF PSUs, so CaseLabs could bump up the case volume to support the wider choice of ATX PSUs. OTOH if the S3 is not sufficiently small, I think it will lose its appeal for mITX customers.

A horizontal form factor...or better yet a case that can be either horizontal or vertical, would be awesome....

Here's a quick concept. Dimensions are not in scale but relative in size to a realistic degree. (Anything can change IRL)
  • There's room for PSU i none end and rad or LC gear (pump, res, rad) in other. One question is, is the depth enough for everyone. There's room for 9 Flex-Bays but the depth might not be enough for HDD cages. Easy fix.
  • If made 19" rack compatible I'd prefer to keep the depth under 450mm.
  • The pedestal right here is for 2.120 but that's with 300mm depth. If increased that can change.
  • Going for a rack mountable version (base unit only) Max. L:440 D:450 would leave either 3.120 rad in front or one of the sides. Pedestals for non rack users would increase to 3.120/(2.140) also.

Thoughts?
