What would you want in a CaseLabs Mini-ITX case? - Page 33

To me, the Asus rma problem is about the bent pins in a supposedly unopened new box. Your request for an RMA will be denied due to customer inflicted damage, especially at the Egg. So I buy Asus mobos from Amazon nowadays. Asus started denying them sometime in early 2012, from what I know. There were some stories of Asus repairing the socket, but charging the customer $120 plus shipping, before RMA denial became routine, from what I can tell.

The bent pins in a socket happened to an Asrock board in late '11 - but I was able to RMA that. The next Asrock board came from Amazon, and it never booted, but got stuck in a D5 error. Finally bought an Asus z8p68 v-pro in late November, and its been purring ever since. And from the 'egg.

Bring on the S3 !! in white, would be AWWSUM !

Max GPU Length: 13.88" (352mm) (which allows air-cooled cards to function properly)

OK so the dimensions are not too far off from the Prodigy.

It also allows a CPU and GPU to be significantly overclocked and thereby creating a very powerful system in a fairly small package. The issue I have with other ITX cases is that they're too small to do the job. Just because you can cram a radiator in a small space doesn't mean it's going to operate efficiently or be easy to maintain. I understand the challenge (and fun) of building a micro system, so by all means go for it if that's what you want smile.gif Dropping a 500 HP motor in a Chevy Spark won't get the same road performance as putting it in a Corvette (which was designed for it) wink.gif

OK, I know what you are doing, and I'ma let you finish, but the dodge charger is a great example of putting too big an engin in a small car smile.gif

So. Call me greedy, but why not do both? I mean, you are the modular guys right? You can do multipal things in one case. How about this:

Take the s3, make it a teeny tiny bit bigger, just enought squeese a mATX mobo in there. And I mean shoe horn, need to lube it up to get it in and not a mm more.
Then with a flip of a switch it tansforms into a nice roomy ITX case. How much more would you need to do both? Take "the challenge (and fun) of building a micro system" in micro! and add your ITX ideas to that.

Flexable, expandable, modular, more desirable for different builds. Heck, I want one now and I am not even building a micro!

Win your dream rig contest here I come!

I know what you mean and I thought about this too, but mATX is deeper than mITX so it would render at least one of the flex bays useless. I think that the design would be too compromised for CaseLabs as it would become just another mATX case with inadequate cooling but it would be more expensive than the competition. There is already a SM5 case for mATX that gives enough cooling so it's not like there is a significant hole in the market. I hope we do see an mATX horizontal case from Jim in this style, but my bet is that Jim would make it a five slotter and deeper so that the front bays are more usable.

I was going to suggest making a mATX case by taking the 8, divide by 4, get a 2 LOL

I was hoping the ITX could be smaller. The S3 (and I have said this about the prodigy too) looks like a great mATX but too big for I.

Prodigy is too small!
