What would you want in a CaseLabs Mini-ITX case? - Page 7

I think the having a 240 would be nice but not needed. These cases are supposed to be small. I would go for either a smaller case or about the same as the Prodigy. Please hurry, I put my M-itx build on hold until this case comes out. I have the M8 and its the best case I have ever owned but I would like to do an extreme small build. Like I said, please hurry!!! Pictures too might help.

I'm not going to go into much detail about the layout just yet, partly because it's still evolving and partly for competitive reasons wink.gif

I'm still debating aluminum vs steel on this one. At the moment, I'm leaning towards steel: less expensive and the weight penalty is less significant on a small case. For a TH10, you'd need a forklift biggrin.gif

If there's a significant cost different between steel and alu i.e. $50+ go with steel.
If it's less than $50, go with aluminum. Doesn't make sense to only save $20 by going steel.

$150-199 should be the target price point for steel.
Anything above $200 should be aluminum.

If I was to design something like this I'd go with a shrunk SMH8, with support for a radiator and a PSU down below both stood on their side though a lot shorter of course, possibly only up to a dual 140. The motherboard would be up top eithe vertical with dive bays behind it or horizontal with the drives sitting in front of the PSU down below.

For a number of reasons, the difference between aluminum and steel would be $50 (or more). That could severely limit its potential market. My goal is to have a true enthusiast case but keep the price in the $150-$200 range. I don't think the world is ready for $250 M-ITX case... But I'm open to input wink.gif

all of this!

But the difference between any of your aluminum cases and almost any competitor's case....is more than $50. Sure the lower weight of aluminum is nice....but it is also infinitely easier to work/mod with than steel. CaseLabs = Aluminum. Or at least that equation holds true right now. I'd be wary about changing that part of the equation. Since it will be such a smaller case....couldn't you just use a little thinner aluminum...rather than moving to steel? Kind of like you were considering for the Merlin line?

I feel the same way. Changing to steel kinda takes away from what I thought Case Labs is or represents. I mean, I think everyone is expecting to pay a price premium for the best.

I think people would pay for a $250 case, but you'll sell alot more $150 steel cases. In the end, I think CL would make a business decision and go with steel, but if they can squeeze a "thinner" alu case for $199, Sales would be a Boomin'.

+1

Plus are you sure you're ready to handle to demand if it's significantly cheaper haha.
