upgrade my x6 to 8 core? - Page 5

There is no point discussing about that.
Anyone sidegrading from a Phenom II to a FX cpu is throwing away money.
The difference is nihil, and often in the advantage of the Phenom II.

Looking at most all benchmarks, PD FX is actually just as fast clock for clock at gaming as Thuban, while having significantly more headroom for overclocking.

Huh? There is virtually no scenario where a Phenom II would have the advantage outside of wPrime and SuperPi.

You are linking to a topic that has no Phenom II benchmarks, therefore your argument is invalid.
Anyone without fanboy goggles can see that there is no reason to switch to FX when they have a proper Phenom II.

You adress only one part of my post, you cannot deny that the difference is nihil, and it in no way justifies a 300-400$ cost.

Well it is well know that Phenom II can't hold their own vs SB, so if the FX chip can that mean FX is a better chip. The link show FX holding their own vs Ivy.

There are many situations where an PD FX will be light years ahead of a PII, so yes I can deny it.

But if you'll notice, I suggested he hold on to his chip for now and at least upgrade his mobo...

FX is not a sidegrade as you suggest.
Save your money, you will not notice a difference in an upgrade if you are gaming, don't buy a motherboard until the new CPUs release. Buying a mobo early awaiting a release will screw you over. And usually with a new CPU, new and better mobos will be released for it thumb.gif

I guess you could grab a SSD if you wanted....

ehm no,at 1080p, (is how i play) i can tell you that a Phenom II can compete with SB, IB or PD on games easily.

And I can prove it using mine, with the games i have thumb.gif, i'm not saying its better or worst, only that can compete perfectly.

Just choose the game you wanna know how it works

But for example
7.42 CINEBENCH/ 1,26 single thread
52,3 fps Heaven 3.0 maxed out 1080p
27,7 Fps Shogun II CPU test Dx9
79 fps Shogun II 1080p High DX 11
72 fps Metro 2033 bench maxed out 1080p tesselation and avanced physics ON dof OFF / 43,7 with DOF enabled
9707 Catzilla

just cause 2benchs, maxed out 1080p 8xAA

Dark tower 65,8 fps/ desert sunrise 75,38/concret jungle 35,23

and can continue posting more and more

No one is saying a Phenom would result in low/unplayable fps. We are arguing the part where you claimed a Phenom II would actually be superior overall for gaming, which is incorrect.
