The Finished Build

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I saved my pennies for far too long but finally this thing is up and running. Really happy with the end product. Only slight gripe I have is the Sapphire 7970GE Vapor X cards were bigger than anticipated, rendering my PCI Xonar DG soundcard useless. Gunna have to get a PCIE Soundcard on the cheap - (on that note, what would you guys recommend as a good but reasonably priced gaming soundcard? must have optical)

Heres a couple of pics of the PC taken tonight.

Full Specs are :

i5 3570k Quacore CPU @4.6Ghz (cooled with a Corsair H100 self contained liqiud cooling unit)
8GB of Mushkin Frostbyte DDR3 1600mhz ram
Asus P8Z77-V Motherboard
2 x Sapphire HD7970 Ghz Edition Vapor-X 3GB Graphics cards in crossfire
Corsair HX850V2 850W Power Supply
OCZ Vertex 4 Indilinx 128GB SSD for operating system
OCZ Vertex 2 90GB SSD for main games

.. and a 1TB + 3 x 320GB HDDs for storage all spinning inside the Cooler Master CM Storm Stryker Full Tower Chassis.

No modifications really, other than zip tying that 200mm fan in front of the GPU's haha.

Regards the fan on the back and the box sitting on top of your PSU, I'd route those cables through the back plate of your motherboard and get those hidden out of the way.

Otherwise a very nice, very clean build. The only other thing I'd personally change would be the motherboard, but that one is nice enough and will do the job well D:

Thanks man, yeah i had originally tried that but the box is too thick to fit behind the mobo, that and the cables wont reach without modding. Will probably rip the cathodes out and just get a set of leds instead.

No the box won't fit but the cables will, get some extensions and then run the cable round the back of the motherboard and then use one of the 5"25 bays to store the box biggrin.gif

Just an idea mate, that's all... Might make it look a little more awesome than it already does :-)

Your Build looks really clean. I was never one for white cases with interior white, but after seeing yet another one
you did a real nice job. I need to rethink my next purchase.

Thanks 4 sharing thumb.gif

Thank you guys, theres a couple of things im going to do for finishing touches. Firstly im gunna either remove completely, or relocate the cathodes and sound box as that looks downright **** lol, secondly gunna buy a xonar dgx pcie soundcard, and lastly one of those nzxt 24 pin braided connector extension to hide that ugly power connector.

Already have new Asus ASUS M5A99X EVO AM3+ AMD 990X SATA 6Gb/s
http://usa.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3Plus/M5A99X_EVO/

I see you went with Corsair H100. I have never used water cooling before, Do you like it ?

Today my first SSD a OCZ Vertex 4 128GB arrived so I will wait and install it my new white rig.
I was going to use 1 SSD for OS and HDD for games like everyone else.

I see you have the same Vertex 4 128 GB for you primary drive.
You also use 2nd OCZ 90GB for gaming. I never thought of using 2 SSD's before.
How do you like using this setup?

Today I started out looking around and now am starting a new build Thanks to you and your nice rig.

Thanks Again thumb.gif

Mate, i don't know what to say. Thank you man for your kind words and im really chuffed you like my rig smile.gif Really appreciate it man. The NZXT Phantom Cases are amazingly good cases, and I was tossing up between a full tower Phantom vs the Stryker so good choice bro! Im sure you will be happy with your decision. The H100 i think is great, it is a little noisy with the default fans but under everyday workloads its not too audible.

The Vertex 4 i just love aye, its so quick to boot up with and have the operating system on! i already had the vertex 2 from my previous build but 90gb was just not quite big enough for my liking - now the 90 gb ssd is just for my favourite games which I want the best performance from - loading is noticeably quicker on the ssd (allbeit not much) over the conventional HDD smile.gif

I think having the second SSD is great and it does mean quicker loading of games but I wouldn't recommend going out and buying a second SSD just for this purpose - i just happened to have it lying around so thought why not.

I have a slight update on the rig btw

What do you guys reckon now that i've removed the cathodes and that ugly ass box? although the glue mark on my PSU is proving to be difficult to remove and looks just about as bad as before lol...but yeah...tried the household cleaners like Jif and Spray and wipe at first, then tried to gently use a paint scraper...nope...isopropyl? i thought this was a winner, but nope..cant get the **** off lol. It was superglue so if anyone has any tips to remove the glue from my PSU you'll be forever in my debt haha...anyway, heres some pics of how its looking now. Still waiting for the soundcard too btw.

Yeah here in NZ we dont seem to have goof off, i've had suggested to me to give terpentine a go as this should remove the glue, yet wont take the paint from my psu with it so i'll give that a crank hopefully tomorrow.

In other news, i've just finished ordering the Asus Xonar DGX Soundcard - its nothing special but a damn sight better than onboard fo sho.

Will update once it arrives smile.gif
