[WCCF]AMD Launching 28nm Kaveri APU with Steamroller Cores in 2H 2013 - Page 9

I am very happy that things are looking up for all of the amd platforms. However, I don't understand why people think that piledriver is bad. Its actually EASILY the best bang for your buck cpu line out right now. I own an fx 8350 and clocked it to 4.6ghz, and its chews and spits out any game I throw at it. Including single threaded games. Single threaded games are also being phased out as we speak. Unreal engine 4 and frostbite 2 are the engines of the future, and both support 8+ cores. an fx 8XXX cpu hasn't even cracked its gaming potential yet, not to even mention the insane amounts of multitasking and streaming you can do with them. Its insane. People are just so brainwashed at the moment to think that they were fail cpus, when they are certainly not, and are fantastic products.

It think it was partially because Piledriver picked up some of Bulldozer's stigma, which was not great for sales.

No, the entire AMD brand became synonymous with crap, underperforming, power hungry CPUs that are worse than Pentium 4s. At least in the enthusiast eyes.

And ARM is for sure not going to allow Intel sell more CPUs without a fight.

Intel is and will remain dominant in the high end server market, for that is the one market where Performance/Watt is critical and Intel's edge in that area gets maximized, Ivy-EP comes in this year and with 22nm die shrink could easily either more native cores at the same TDP as SB-EP or much lower power consumption.

ARM currently compete with no Intel CPU save Atom, as Intel get better at power management & 22(Valley View with Ivy graphic cores due this year?)/14nm(Anand said that Intel hinted that Atom will go 14nm at the same time as broadwell) Atom chip get implemented they will become more competitive.

ARM does have plans to move into the server market (and stated it repeatedly that is where they look forward into expanding), and that's a threat Intel is taking seriously.

the low end maybe, but I don't think that's the majority of the profit is at. But Intel is definitely taking the ARM threat seriously with how much they are focusing on Performance/Watt.

I used to read people telling me that AMD CPUs are terrible for gaming and are unusable. Which I always laughed at because I read them while alt-tabbing from my games at max settings.

I saved $100 and got to put that into a better graphics card. Terrible for gaming!

Then there were people telling me that the performance gain wasn't worth it. However, factoring in what I sold my 1055T for my FX-8120 ended up costing me $9.

Then my FX-8320 ended up costing me $30.

That's the correct way to upgrade wink.gif

I went from a 2600k to a 3770k for 30usd too, but that way you get to keep resale value and thus a cheap or free upgrade.

I wanna get a richland or kaveri rig for benching, come on amd! Improved imc would be really nice. Currently the potential for really high mhz is there but the efficiency not so much.
Its like going to a mass baptizing here! I cannot keep up with all the names of the new models architecture from both camps. Ha! I hope AMD do well, as we all say, 'Its better for competition.'

I like the idea of CPU/GPU on same chip. You never know when it may come handy i.e your main card needs to be Rma, or you want to upgrade the card you have.

So if AMD excel in this area, Intel will have to also, or be left behind. Don't get me wrong! I love Intel's chip, but I would love AMD to get closer to Intel's cpu speed!

I hate the people who on my local forums diss trinity to the max, they are mighty and cheap! overclocking beasts
I will be getting a trinity/richland depending on whether i find richland worth the new release (If it really is GCN then AWESOME!)
Trinity might go on low prices

I just bought a huge Deepcool Ice Blade GS that is going for very cheap (Not exactly fantastic bargain but it is still cheap by a FAR shot)
and then i'll slap some AFB1212H pwm fans and probably the SHE variants in the future but probably not
and then i'll stuff it into a HAF 912 Combat (Planning to pull out the half-wasted 1 USB 3 port and adding extra stuff) and modding it abit so that a 38mm fan (AFB1212SHE with fan controllers) at the back won't run into a back 38mm on the top but i'll tentatively install WFB1212M before i'll get the fan controller from STW (6 ch 1slot variant, 36W per fan)

Only using normal fans because the Asrock FM2A85X Extreme6 only has 2 PWM compared to 5 on the gigabyte up4 board
