Tell them to get a Roku. Download the Plex channel on their Roku, then install Plex Media Server on your storage box. Plex can (unsupported though, I think) stream over the internet to a Roku...which I have setup for my dad on the otherside of the state. WD Live won't accept streams over the internet, I don't think. Unless you could configure the ports that it looks on for a stream, and forward that port from your gateway device...and tell their WD Live to connect to it directly...but I don't know if that's possible with the WD Live. That's basically what I do with Plex over WAN on my dads Roku.
Yea the wd online functions are locked but he could maybe use Serviio to serv stuff to it im still messing with the online part on my wd live. The wd live has a live tv option not sure if that would help or not it has skitter tv sling player and hauppauge apps.Edited by Bal3Wolf - 1/8/13 at 10:58am
