For those that are thinking about a mod on this case, but don't have an idea on how to get it done, here's a link to a video by Bill Owen on a basic window mod:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpZoE-zj0-k&feature=player_embedded

i mentioned in a previous post that i actually asked Bill to do a window for me but said he was overwhelmed with projects so he couldnt do it right now so i let Frozencpu do it.

Well, since I can't post this as a new thread in the "News" due to some rather odd rules here, we're actually hosting a modding contest. It's worldwide, and all people have to do is submit their mod/build idea of a Phantom 630. The top 5 winners will receive a free Phantom 630 to complete their build idea.

Am I missing anything? Any other required/specific cut-off wheels or jigsaw blades? I already have the u-channel molding and tape at home. Feel free to suggest any alternatives available on Amazon.com.

- Black & Decker RTX-B 3-Speed RTX Rotary Tool Kit [$40]
- Acrylic Sheet - Thickness - .125", Size - 12" x 12" [$12]
- Black & Decker JS660 Jig Saw with Smart Select Dial [$35]

Total: $87 (tools) + 180 (case) = $267* Hmm...

*Amazon.com prices - not interested in brick and mortar stores or other online retailers.

Edit: Added CaptainChaos' dremel.

Edit 2: Okay, thought it over a bit, I'm going to get the 900D (when available) instead. Currently, it's $336 on Amazon, which is $69 more than the Phantom 630 (with tools). I will not drop $75 on power tools that will only be used once. I'm really hoping this stupid side panel design doesn't carry over on to future NZXT cases. High-end water cooling support? That's great! thumb.gif It's just too bad that I won't be able to see any of it.

http://www.amazon.com/Black-Decker-RTX-B-3-Speed-Rotary/dp/B000MUSLCC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1363324951&sr=8-2&keywords=black+and+decker+rotary+too

I'd go with that over the dremel if you want to save some money. It accepts dremel accessories as well.

TBH, I can't comment on the tools etc you'd need. i ran accros the video a while back when researching window mods.

I lack the tools, workbench and, perhaps most importantly: the skills with and even the aptitude for power tools.

It'd be cheaper (and probably a better result) to have the bit cut out for me at a place nearby.. The rest should be doable, even for me wink.gif

Aye, that would be the ideal situation. We'll have to wait and see if that happens. But when I get my 630, the easy window mod will usffice until they decide to sell one.

If you do go the DIY route with your window, make sure to be careful. I understand that NZXT is not selling just the panel for the 630 at this time so if you screw up, new case. rolleyes.gif

Lol! Aye, that's why I'm going to leave any cutting that needs to be done to a professional... The rest shouldn't be that hard (read: easy to mess up).

Just curious if anyone has had this issue?

"Here's one problem I ran into: the snap-off plastic case front has these ridges molded into it. They serve to precisely locate 5.25" devices such as this Blu-Ray drive. As you can see from this image, the drive can't slide back any further into the case. However, this also means that you can't remove the case front (as you might wish to do to clean the front intake filter) without removing any 5.25" devices. In the case of an optical drive as shown below, this is merely an annoyance (remove SATA and power cables, flip release lever, slide drive out). However, if you're using a bay reservoir for your water cooling system, it's much more of a problem."
