The sound is so grainy and harsh, firing a deagle sounds like rocks scraping together.... im hearing no bass whatsoever. Maybe its my EQ settings? it was between these and the Q701 and im heavily regretting my choice. I mean, my steelseries 7H sounds better and costed me about 1/3rd of the price of the 598. May it be because the headphones need to be broken in? everything sounds so digitalized and fake. The demo headphones they had on the wall sounded great and about 100 times better than these.

EDIT: im starting to think i don't have the sound card for this.... anything past 30% volume on my sound card the sound distorts like crazy..... its funny cause my sound card says it supports headphones up to 600 ohms and has a dedicated 600 ohm headphone amp...

I have a set of 598s and they sound great for music. As for gaming not so much. The positional audio on these things doesn't work very well. I have the corsair 1300 gaming headset and that thing is AMAZING for positional audio vs the hd598s. Sure the sound lacks bass and is kind of tinny sounding but wow. It was like experiencing another level of gaming. I've been banned from multiple servers because I can hear where people are through the wall. It's insane, I can pinpoint exactly where someone is creeping around in CSGO.

As for the HD598s when I got them I was extremely displeased with them for gaming and music. First thing, I've always preferred closed headsets so getting used to these I think is part of the reason but also the sound was terribly tinny and it sounded like everything garbled when listening to metal or anything heavy. I couldn't believe how bad they sounded with the great reviews they got so I started poking around on my computer and sure enough, I found that the onboard audio was turned on in bios since I recently wiped and didn't think about it. I turned that off and the quality got a bit better. Then I turned my attention to the HDMI audio device on my 6870s I uninstalled the drivers and removed it, disabled it in device manager and turned it off in the registry. After I did that my jaw dropped they sounded so damn good the clarity and sound stage was absolutely AMAZING. Then I ended up getting an old sansui 5000x receiver for 20 dollars and I hooked it up to my x-fi titanium hd and had an eargasm. paired with the 598s, music movies even gaming sound so freaking awesome. (except for positional audio my corsair headset is still king at that by far.)

I was planning on getting another on getting another amp I tried the o2 and didn't like it the sound quality detail everything is soooo much better on this old sansui receiver. I know the o2 isn't paired with anything so maybe that's why.

But yeah, it sounds like your headset is screwed up or something is wrong with your souncard settings. It took me quite a while of messing around with settings and changing stuff until I found ones that I liked. Also I'd check your onboard audio, I never knew how much that could affect my soundcard.

I am just throwing this out there, but as the issue was only with CS:GO, perhaps it had something to do with OpenAL?
