AMD Richland A10-6800K APU thread - Page 11

The 3DMark11 score is just what I expected, lol. According to the article you provided the A10-6800 with a score of 1667 still does not out perform my A10-5800K at the exact same GPU frequency but with a score of 1684 (http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/6222902).

I am grabbing PCMark7 now to run against the productivity score of 4176, and I don't think it will be much different.

Already not looking like enough to win anyone over! rolleyes.gif

Now we are being told it will launch on FM3, and may be backwards compatible with FM2. I understand the need for the higher memory clock speeds of DDR4/5, but when making the choice to go for AMD it was with the idea of HD 7750 performance from an upcoming APU on the FM2 socket.

Anyone else feel this way?

WCCF is largely inaccurate.

http://wccftech.com/amd-apu-performance-numbers-revealed-details-launch-schedule-richland-kabini-apus-leaked/

They pretty much claimed richland will have GCN cores. Also kaveri WILL be FM2 compatible so I don't see the problem here.

Nope. That's what you get from better yields. Improved perf/watt
It's all just rumours right now, isn't it? And really the only time DDR4 will ever be first out is about 2014, where Intel will launch it with their Haswell-E of course and knowing AMD much later

I was agreeing with you that Richland is a better quality trinity, duuno why you "noped" my explanation that a Trinity at Richland clocks would need a higher TDP (and higher power draw) than Richland at Richland clocks.

However, I think you are wrong about the DDR4. (unsuuported rumor ATM) Apparently samsung was not happy with how their sales of the green ram went (I am assuming server side) and is working on getting DDR4 out now. Micron has working chips as well.

Kaveri has already been confirmed to be able to use GDDR5, which apparently is the same type of memory controller that is used for DDR4, so Kaveri sould support DDR4 before its even out. Why do you think intel has to be the first for DDR4, it benefits AMD way more ATM to use DDR4 ASAP with both the CPU side lacking bandwidth compared to intel, and the APU gpu needs as much as it can off of standard ram.

I've seen several sources saying Richland was coming out today, but no sights of it.

wccftech.com is indeed VERY inaccurate. I remember having read this article which makes claims that are already proven wrong (for example Richland using GCN), plus it's already 9 months old, so I wouldn't use it to prove a point. Now this article states:
Quote:
Among the information provided are the release and technical details of Richland A-Series AMD APU which will arrive on 19th March for desktop.
We now know for sure that Richland for desktop is not here yet.

Point being, rumors are not to be taken too seriously, plus I wouldn't trust that site too much, or an article written by that skinny guy.

Isn't that the same site that Photoshopped a GTX 200s GPU and claimed it was the Titan?
Yep,that's them.

I was just reading this article which stated Kaveri will utilize GDDR5 RAM (http://www.brightsideofnews.com/news/2013/3/6/analysis-amd-kaveri-apu-and-steamroller-core-architectural-enhancements-unveiled.aspx). And I have to say that after digging a bit deeper, that it makes sense given the announcement that AMD would be providing the PlayStation 4 with a "semi-custom" 8-core APU utilizing 8GB of onboard GDDR5. The articles I have been reading say that it is necessary for GDDR5 to be soldered on, and if the Kaveri APU is to utilize GDDR5... is anyone thinking what I am thinking?

Back to the days of CPU cartridges! Lol... I'm thinking of you Pentium III Katmai SECC2

Maybe this custom PS4 APU won't be too far off what we should be expecting from Kaveri? Am I crazy?
