AMD Richland A10-6800K APU thread - Page 4

Are you sure they're gonna improve the FPU this time round? I'm sorta sick of waiting for AMD since Stars to improve their FPU but they actually made it worse
It's better to just buy 1866, best of both worlds. after all most 1866 kits can OC to 2133 easily or a ARES 1866 CL9 can get you to 2400 (Trinity is capable of 2800 on air ... but that's another story)

No, the FPU is going to stay as it is in terms of actual unit capabilities.

Steamroller is the next architectural restructuring. It won't come with more FPU power per se, but due to changes in the way the cores are fed, the throughput will increase quite substantially.

Is it worth it to upgrade to a 6800K and whatever graphics it will Crossfire with,if you already have a 5800K? I'm thinking of just waiting for the Steamroller & GCN based Kaveri as long as AMD keeps FM2.

Not quite. Wait for kaveri biggrin.gif It's only a 10-20% performance CPU (From the extra clock) increase even if it might be cheaper this time round

Although the A10-6800K doesn't look like it will be overly impressive or a huge increase from the A10-5800K, I am probably going to dive in and upgrade. I'm toying with the idea of getting rid of my A10-5800K + 6670 in an AMD Dual Graphics combo.

Might be worth it, word is 6800k is supposed to use GNC for its graphics so im thinking xfire with a 7750 might be possible.

Just purchased a A8-5600k build for my store. Its gonna be a dual purpose rig. Runs my quick books (register) and light gaming when I dont have any work or customers in. biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

I only grabbed a 5600 cause I wanna buy a richland APU. I did a review on the first APU's in my sig, hope trinity is a nice step up. would love some left 4 dead 2 on my down time. lol

My A10's 7660D maxes L4D2 @ 41FPS on average, max in the 60's, lows in the 30's. It actually plays extremely smooth. The A8's iGPU has less shaders so you may have to turn down some settings to yield better frames.

Right on. I mostly game on my sig rig, but hopefully this little APU will work for those slow work days. biggrin.gif

I dont expect GCN...

If Richland was using GCN, AMD would be saying so here in this slide. They show Kaveri having GCN, I expect Richland to use the same VLIW4 arch as Trinity. In fact, they are calling it 2nd generation. Notice that Trinity is referred to as 2nd generation? The whole platform is being shown here as being in the same generation category as Trinity.
