Did you even read his post? The i7-4950hq STOMPS all of AMD's APU offerings, even ones that use twice as much power (the desktop A10-6800K, for example).

What do you guys think about this build? It would be used mostly for LAN events and to take with me to places. Prices are AFTER tax and shipping and discounts, and prices are in Canadian dollars.

CPU: AMD A10-6800K 4.1GHz Quad-Core APU - $181
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 8670D IGP (as part of the A10-6800K APU)
MOBO: ASRock Extreme4-M A85X Socket FM2 Micro-ATX Motherboard - $97
RAM: 8GB (2 x 4GB) Patriot Viper 3 Mamba DDR3 2133MHz RAM Kit - $86
PSU: Seasonic SS-500ET 500W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified Power Supply - $75
Case: NZXT Vulcan Micro-ATX Black Case - $82

Total (including tax, shipping, and discounts) = $521

*** I can get an AMD A6-5400K right now for $75 after tax, which would bring the price down to $415, and I know it wouldn't be as powerful as the A10-6800K, but I would probably have to buy a 5000 series APU anyway, so that I can update the motherboard's BIOS ***

Jeez. At six times the price it better bloody do so.
We're talking HD4600 here which Intel rumored to be double HD4000, but did it double? No. And that's the highest grade LGA chip there.
He's talking about the HD4600 that's for sure because the A10-5800k still roflstomps it much less 6800k

It all depends on what are you going to be using the box for? The A10-6800K is the end of the line for the FM2 socket. FM2+ is required for Kaveri. So you CPU upgrade path is over.

Xbit found that 2400 Mhz worked with the A10-6800K and made game run faster.

I would be playing games at 720p (1280 x 720 resolution) or lower, and I would be trying to play games at low/mixed medium settings.

Games I would be playing would be Hawken, League of Legends, Battlefield 3 (online/multiplayer) Blacklight: Retribution, and other online/multiplayer games, so I wouldn't need an overly powerful computer.

2400MHz+ RAM is really expensive, and I'm trying to keep the cost down however I can tongue.gif

No, kaveri will drop into FM2 motherboards no problem

TridentX 2400MHz 2x4GB for $96 at Amazon.com

This one item in the range is below £100 this side of the pond as well, and only $10 more than your Patriot kit.

That same kit is at least $15+ more where I live, and your price is before tax. My price is after tax (the Patriot RAM is $74 before tax)

EDIT:

I actually found that TridentX RAM for $90 plus tax, but after tax is going to be just over $100, so... $86 for 2133MHz RAM or over $100 for 2400MHz RAM... I'd rather save the $15+ if I can lol

I can understand paying extra if I were going from 1333MHz RAM to 2133MHz RAM, but not from 2133MHz RAM to 2400MHz RAM, at least, not right now anyway.

I sure hope not. I have always gotten AMD but the frequency of socket upgrades is getting a little much for me.
