EDIT:

I actually found that TridentX RAM for $90 plus tax, but after tax is going to be just over $100, so... $86 for 2133MHz RAM or over $100 for 2400MHz RAM... I'd rather save the $15+ if I can lol

I can understand paying extra if I were going from 1333MHz RAM to 2133MHz RAM, but not from 2133MHz RAM to 2400MHz RAM, at least, not right now anyway.

2400MHz for $85.

The difference between the sockets lies in two pins, two that are covered on the FM2 socket, but uncovered on the FM2+ socket. This means that while 'older' Trinity and Richland APUs will drop right into the FM2+ socket, it also means that the upcoming Kaveri APUs will not fit, or work in the current FM2 socket -- pins will bend.

Kaveri will not work with FM2 mobos.

2400MHz+ RAM is really expensive, and I'm trying to keep the cost down however I can tongue.gif

Ya that's true, go with the 2133 memory then and a A10-6800K and get a decent cooler to OC it.

I'm a bit confused because you sig rig is already a gaming box. confused.gif

If AMD follows the same path of AM3/+, we will be able to use Kaveri in select FM2 mobos. Right now it looks bleak, but it may work. If not, I will be upgrading my mobo again! At least the next upgrade won't be as steep due to all my parts being upgraded right now.

I'm just throwing possible ideas out there for a second (more portable) gaming PC that I could take with me, since my main PC isn't portable my any means tongue.gif

As far as my main PC, I do plan on upgrading, but I won't have the money for what I want for a while tongue.gif I'm planning on upgrading my main PC's CPU, RAM and motherboard to an FX-8350 CPU, 8GB of Kingston HyperX Beast 2400MHz RAM and an ASUS TUF SABERTOOTH 990FX/GEN3 R2.0 motherboard smile.gif

It's important to keep pushing the envelope and I suppose it is necessary with the memory limitation of the current mobo architecture. But I would have liked to be able to drop in a new kaveri cpu in my fm2 mobo. I like AMD and all, but now I'm feeling the frustration that I heard when owners of Llano were complaining about end of socket life for fm1.
These "value" APUs are geared toward budget minded enthusiasts, but I think that consumers who got on the bandwagon for a Llano or Trinity cpu might feel like buying a new mobo for each iteration of new apu technology is asking too much for a budget setup.
For both these 1st and second gen APUs, AMD was promising much longer socket life than delivered.

1st rumor 2nd amd has already said they tend to keep fm2 till steamroller.

I think they said they would keep the socket till excavator or whatever that next one is called but I don't expect that to happen. Yes it's a rumor at this point but it makes alot of sense...unlike rumors of Richland being 20-40% faster GPU than trinity. That rumor made no sense.

yet it is... when overclocked and paired with ddr3 2400 ram... since richland overclocks better... they're pulling 25%+ better performance out of it... now it's actually matching a 6670... which was 30% faster then the a10-5800k
