AMD Richland A10-6800K APU thread - Page 54

Overclocking that iGPU is getting to be a pain for me. Even at stock, the display drivers crash if i play anything for over an hour. They come back up 2 seconds later, but it's still rather irritating. I've been trying to make 100% sure it's not a stability issue with my system. Once I'm satisfied that it's not my fault, AMD will be getting yet another email complaining about their shoddy drivers.

Perhaps your RAM is clocked to high. Memory errors can look like GPU errors because of the shared system memory. Remember that no OC is guaranteed and alot of claimed OC speeds you will read about are exaggerated. Also tinkering with the speed of an APU is more difficult than a traditional set up. Do you have an msi motherboard by chance? My MSI motherboard was not cooperative with GPU overclocking and it took me weeks to find a way to do it.

No, I have an ASUS. Again, I thought it was my OC so I took everything back to stock. I'm running my RAM at rated right now (or at least i'm pretty sure i am, 1600 MHZ 10-10-10 for sure, but 1T/2T...I don't even remember which one I have set lol).

MY multiplier is locked to 46 though. Intentionally: 47+ work, but the coil whine is unbearable.

Check if there is no overheating problem.
Coil whine from where? Any chance from the PSU?
Definitely, not a driver issue.

Yes, and it supposedly gives very good performance. It just doesn't make sense unless you already have the 6800K or the 7750, because you can get an FX-6300 and a 7870 for less and it will be faster, so you don't hear many reports of people doing it.

Cant really comment on the coil whine Ive never had that happen but I suspect the display driver crashes are being caused by a memory error, especially if your gpu is at stock. If you have already tried a clean reinstall of the driver run memtest at the rated speed for your sticks and determine if you need an rma. If the sticks are good test your psu, a psu tester is only 5 bucks and you'll use it again for sure. (or use multimeter if you have one).

Memory errors. Driver crashes are mostly caused by unstable memory OCs also have you stress tested your RAM?

While you can pair up a 7750 or 6670 with a 6800k there are better ways to spend your budget if graphics performance is your #1 goal. Although without looking it up myself Im guessing a fx6300 and 7870 will cost more?
