AMD Richland A10-6800K APU thread - Page 56

lol, you guys keep recommending people buy so much hardware.

if you're not gaming, that APU will do just about everything ever in good time. i use it for MATLAB/Simulink, AutoCAD, and 3DSMax. I go to grab a glass of water and my renders are done when I get back. I always feel slightly guilty making my computer wait lol

I get what you mean. But it's OCN a forum dedicated to high performance PC hardware so without being given a budget or usage scenario most will recommend the fastest possible hardware to get the job done. If your productivity is dependent on render times faster hardware will be worth the cost.
yes, but always keep in mind marginal returns. at some point (don't ask me which, that involves a lot research, analysis, and debate, definitely debate) the performance jump you're paying for is negligible. sometimes the difference between the very top tier and the one right below it is just a few kiloflops, which in my mind is not worth a hundred bucks difference.

then there's things like the mega supergame black xtreme [insert whatever else] i7's that go for like a grand. if you buy that processor, you have to have absolutely 0 bottlenecks or you just wasted a good $800, which means spending another couple thousand dollars and you'll hit the ultimate bottleneck:

PROGRAMS. hardware gets better every year, software just hogs more resources as time goes on. not only that, STILL very few code for multiple cores, so 8/10 times you have 1 core loaded and 3 just idling.

To me the 6700 is the best AMD has to offer with Richland. Its a pretty powerful processor and gpu that really looks like the best option out there for a low power draw HTPC build. We all know that PC sales are down and that people buy laptops primarily. To non-enthusiast PC users the old "big black box" looks like a dinosaur. So why don't we see some more mini PC systems at the stores?

because, honestly, most non-enthusiasts/non-professionals don't need a computer. they need a netflix and/or facebook machine (which is why tablets and macs sell so damn well).

I think AMD should push to market mini pcs. They have won the console bid, now make a move to put a few teensy workstations on the shelves. Get a demo rig end cap thing going, show people what they can offer for the price of a cheapo laptop. Dont let the vendors nerf the graphics either like what happened with alot of Trinity laptops (single channel ram).
