HD 5970 Black Edition 2GB

Hi guys,

Having recently upgraded to a 7970Ghz, I'm looking to sell my 5970 2GB Black Edition to reclaim some of the money, however in order to do so, I would like to fix a small (but annoying) issue that I have been having with it for a while.

Basically, everytime I boot Windows, after about 5-10 seconds, the display drivers will stop responding, the screen will freeze and then everything will recover with the graphics card then performing as normal. It works perfectly well in games, it only does it once and that is when I boot up Windows.

I've tried with XP, Vista and 7 and innumerable different drivers, but the problem persists. It is worth noting that I do not experience this problem with my new 7970Ghz, so it is definitely the card.

I have an inkling that it might be a firmware issue as I think (though I can't be sure) that it started happening after doing a complete driver uninstall with Driver Cleaner/Sweeper. Is it possible that a program like this would have erased something it shouldn't have?

It's most likely the idle clocks are too low. A problem with the 5970, 5870, and 5850 cards. The idle clocks of 150MHz are too low and you might need to flash your card with a 400MHz idle clock bios.

Check out all the search links.

From previous experience of my own this issue you are describing was caused by the use of Driver Sweeper. The only thing I was able to do with any piece of mind was to reinstall Windows. I am running Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit. You could always try to perform a repair on the installation also if you have the original Windows install disk.

On a different note, how much are you looking to sell your card for? I was thinking of going Crossfire with that card. I currently am running one myself and love it.

Thanks.

I've gone through numerous OS re-installs sadly (I do a fresh re-install with each driver change) but sadly it hasn't helped.

In regards to selling the thing, I honestly hadn't thought about it in it's current condition, but that's purely down to me wanting everything to be fully functional at all times tongue.gif Like I said previously, and I would just like to reiterate, it has absolutely no impact on the card's performance in games.

In regards to price, I will listen to any offers if you would like to PM me?

Man that pic of RBE is ancient. OP, you better read the faq on RBE too. It's a good tool.
