[VRZ] Blizzard hops on the Linux train - Page 2

As much as I do not like Diablo 3 (for having to have an always on connection just to play in single player mode) or WoW (it is ok, but I prefer better graphics and less "kiddie" stuff in an MMO), I think this will be GREAT news if Blizzard does this.

With the tens of millions of people that they have paying for their games, it will make other game companies sit up and take more notice of the Linux community as a whole and hopefully shatter the monopoly that Microsoft has because of DirectX.
wait wait wait..didnt they dislike linux a little while ago by banning those who played D3 on wine? and other games i believe but i do know they did so for wine users.
Disclaimer: I've never played WOW.

In my experience, the problem with Linux, games and otherwise, isn't that companies don't want to support another platform. It's that when they try to, they are met with skepticism and contempt by a community of people who want the software on there own terms. aka free and open source.

Add to that that even with the proprietary drivers, NV and ATI on Linux falls short of windows in every way performance wise.

Yes I know it's because of closed source drivers etc. but it doesn't matter why, it just is.

Perhaps a dedicated setup, like a steam box, which can be certified to meet a certain set of hardware guidelines will help standardize the environment for game makers and get them on Linux.

I hope that is so.

Only one way to get them to give the Linux drivers attention...! smile.gif

I think the Ubuntu cell phone OS will really help get Linux moving as well.

I seriously doubt they have anything against any platform, since they have been releasing Mac version of all their game for a long long time. How many company can say the same?

This is exactly what I thought of as well. What the heck is going on at Bliz? That just happened a month or 2 ago, all of those users were banned for using D3 + Wine. Huh?

If this pans out, I say good news. I'm not a big Linux fan, but the more OS competition we get in the gaming industry, the better, without a doubt.

Weren't they killing the anti-cheat agent in order to make the game work under WINE?
