How does the plextor fare with respect to the 840?

Doing so would only save $10 so I'm not sure if it's really worth it. The B75 boards lose a lot of features and again they aren't much cheaper so it's not worth it.

G41 it is, then. Maybe I can spend a little extra and get the samsung green ram?

The non reference are, i am pretty sure this is a reference model, Ram speed will not make a big difference, it is better to just grab whatever is cheap. The samsung wonder ram sucks for this sort a build since 0 overclocking will be done.

Either way this is a gaming machine, it should have a 7950 in it, the budget is there.

They managed a 4.7 GHz on the board not to mention stuff like angled SATA ports which are nice to have.

Read OP, no over clocking, this is to do gaming on stock thats it.

I agree with the ram. Should not matter to much.
Get a 7950. No more said. the 7870 and the 7850 have some random problems I read about ... always skeptical after reading up on that ...

I talked him into bumping up his budget a bit. 7950 it is.

Isn't 1333 Mhz ram dipping a bit into the low side though, or does it really not make a difference given the budget saved?

You really will not be able to tell a difference with the RAM, at all. I mean, for a couple of bucks I think you can bump it up to 1600 MHz, but it would not make a single difference in a gaming rig
