What your system is lacking is RAM, 1 gig really isn't enough to run those games proper. A new video card will only help so much.

what's the thing with the cats in all of the avatars?
I'd go with the 640mb, and I WILL go with the 640mb gts because it reaches almost the gtx clock speeds and i'd suspect that the GTX isn't as overclockable as the GTS, is that right? Because the fans are almost the same.

Each of my 8800GTS cards have hit 600/1350/2000 (core/shader/RAM), easily enough. If you insist on getting a graphics card upgrade now, just opt go for the 8800GTS. Though I'd look into replaceing that Pentium D before makeing the move to a G80.

Edit;

Didn't realise this was an old thread hat's been bumped.

Are you saying yours won't but a c2d will?

Well a GTS will suit you fine with a 17" monitor. Upgrade your monitor first.
