My big typhoon has killed my pc! - Page 4

NO weighted CPU Fan and Heatsink assembly should be "CLIP ON". Damn that is a completely idiotic method to attach such a weight that will be not only perpendicular to the attachment but will also be leveraged heavier as it extends horizontally to the perpendicular attachment.

Just because others are doing this (Scythe, etc) in no way takes from the fact that this method is not a good thing.

Yes, many will not purchase the other products due to board removal complexity ( for some ) but to create this for the purposes of sales and the bottom line just shows the shoddier business practices that are coming to light in much of the computer industry lately.

BigTyphoon = 813 grams! That's close to 30 Lbs for you standard measurement people.
Scythe Infinity = 960 grams! That's close to 35 Lbs.
Scythe Mine = 560 grams! That's close to 20 Lbs.

As I said, this is total insanity and there will be more instances of issues happening. You can be certain. What happens to plastic and board silicon as the temperatures raise and lower over time? Anyone have an answer to that? It becomes brittle and then some movement of the case? Well, I am certain that the point I make is seen. Yes, it might take some time to occur but it will.

i think the ATX standard is like 300-400 something grams, so big coolers are over what they reccomend, especially attaching by a clip lol

Im moving in a couple of days adn i wont have time to get it sorted, and that is if Asus ever reply to my mail asking them if i can order a new bracket, to see what the dameage is.

Be aware that with the wieght of the BT VX, it can snap the black bracket on a 939 socket and fall off!

This kida sucks, because i dont think TT or asus are going to particularly care about my problem. does anywhere know where i can get a new "lotes" 939 mount bracket? i have the broken one unscrewed now.

what video card you have?

Question what is the model number on the VX.... I thought the VX is what i purchased but from the pic I saw earlier I have the same mounting bracket... I removed motherboard because it said that asus had a plastic backing plate and I needed to replace it... removed board and wow guess what there was a metal mounting bracket..... so I just stood the BT up and used the 2 1 1/2" screws tightened down and I was done... The model number I purchased was the CL-P0114.... am I to understand I bought the old one?? anyways if so I am glad I did not buy the VX... that is truely idiotic engineering thinking that the stock hsf clip bracket could hold the weight of that massive thing.... I am terrified of even taking the rig to friends houses for fear of jarring it to much and the BT rocking and causing my mb to crack....has anyone had a similar situation happen??

Shaggyt

Edit: This is mine but as you can see Ive removed the black bracket from around cpu to mount the BT....my bracket is vertical so in this pic you can quite make it out but only had to set plate over base and use a #2 phillips bit tip to tighten down....by the way how tight should i have these?? because they are only as tight as I could not grip the bit very well...

I solved my problem by turning my case sideways, now it is in a horizontal orientation. My idle temps went down by 1-2 degrees, and my load temps went up about 1 degree.

Of course, my temperatures aren't all that great in the first place, seeing as my case is very crowded! I need to get a TT Armor

Cheers, lets hope it doesnt topple over onto the motherboard now :O

Good corrections. No idea how the original weights were calculated but 30, 35, 20LBs isn't even logical.

I said most
I say none, a Fan controller does not make it any better... it's quiet already.. why would you need to turn the fan down? lol
plus, didn't the ****er just FALL OFF?

It's fine use the ASUS one. I did on my K8V SE DE and hit 2.8 with a 3400+ with no PCI lock!
