On the other hand, since I already have all those games which come with the 7950, I could get it and by selling the games get back into my original budget sneaky.gif

Is there any real way to tell a Pitcairn fro a Tahiti?

the tahiti LE cards can be told from their model names. Sapphire HD 7870 XT , Powercolor PCS+ MYST HD 7870, Club 3D HD 7870 XT, VTX3D HD 7870 Black edition

the arctic s1 plus turbo might not be enough for the Tahiti LE overclocked to 1.2 ghz as you would easily draw close to 200 - 220w. your best option is the Sapphire HD 7870 XT.

as you mention selling the games HD 7950 allows you to stay within 250 bucks. thats your best option. thumb.gif

Though a 660ti is a big jump up in performance....

Before it even comes to this, a certain AMD enthusiast is going to come into this thread. I'm going to go ahead and post what he would just to get it out of the way.

ehem...

Not ignoring your input there, but with little more to go on than "The 7870 is a stuttery little bugger right now" and "overall smoothness of gameplay" the 7870 has most of my attention.

looks like Nvidia has stutter issues of their own with the latest 310.70 and 310.90 whql drivers.

the PCS+ MYST HD 7870 tahiti LE cooler is not as good as the sapphire card which comes with the excellent dual x cooler. the PCS+ card gets loud with overclocking

Is there a 7950 Tahiti LE? Other than that I'll probably be ordering the Sapphire 7870 XT here in the next few days. While that 7950 is tempting especially with the potential to get my money back, I'm kinda stuck on amazon as I have a significant gift card balance there.

No need for a 7950 with a Tahiti LE GPU since it has the full featured, more powerful GPU core already.
