Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is the only card in the US that has the tahiti core. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131484

EDIT: Found this one also. Should be in stock hopefully with the next week or two.

I'm still trying to decide if it's gonna be the Sapphire XT Tahiti LE 7870 or a 7950.

What do you think of the GV-R795WF3-3GD or a HIS 7950? Either can be had on amazon for just under ~300, which would be the max ceiling for my budget.

Are the Tahiti's pretty much guaranteed to be good overclockers then?

I will be buying the Sapphire HD7870 XT on Amazon as soon as it's back on stock and I think you should do the same if you don't want to spend too much money on a card. I had a standard 7870 before and I wasn't very satisfied with it and I think the XT will be just the right card for me since I don't want to spend more than $260.

if you are getting the HD 7950 do not go for reference cooler cards. they are loud. the gigabyte HD 7950 (900 mhz) and sapphire HD 7950 boost (925 mhz) have excellent coolers and can be had for below USD 300. get it from superbiiz as they have the game bundle. the HD 7950 cards mentioned above are good overclockers. with voltage tweaking 1100 - 1150 mhz is easy to achieve. at those speeds HD 7950 matches HD 7970 Ghz thumb.gif

Well, that review you linked to in your earlier post, raghu, really gotme thinking. If the 7870 overclocks well, I could easily get it to to perform similar to a 7950. I realize that the same clock speeds on different cards don't equal the same performance but that's pretty good still... What difference are we talking about in % ? And I could always crossfire the 7870 down the road. Reason (and budget) tells me to go with the 7870, but avarice tells me 7950.

As far as the games you get on suprbiiz go, I believe those are Steam codes rather than physical media but correct me if I am wrong.

EDIT: I'll be going with the 7950. I'll have to wait another 3-4 weeks but I think I'm gonna be happier down the road.

Thanks to everyone for helping me decide!

If you can get the 7950, that's definitely a better choice. Go for it and be happy. thumb.gif

superbiiz has a coupon code NYRESO2013 which cuts $10 off from price. the sapphire card has an extra $20 mail in rebate, though its only valid till jan 15th, 2013.

https://www.superbiiz.com/images/rebate/Sapphire-MIR-2012-1101_2013-0115-extension-Video%20Card-ALT-5471%20Channel.pdf

the game codes are steam codes. they are easily worth 50 - 60 bucks.

gigabyte card also has the NYRESO2013 price cut thumb.gif

Thanks for the info. Think I'll be going with the Sapphire 7950. Although the NYRESO2013 expired today as does the rebate. I have to wait another 1-3 weeks before I can afford this card so with any luck there will be another discount code available by then. Currently there is a $5 discount code SLURP available. And hopefully the free games will still be available by the time I plan to buy the card.
