Spinning circle thing over the network icon

Thread Starter
When I start the computer and log in, it shows the waiting spinning circle thing over the network icon for a minute and then is ready. When I first installed windows two days ago it load instantly. Now it keeps me from doing anything on my computer until its done being loaded. I did a lot of research on here and other websites, including Microsoft and can not figure it out. I hope you guys can help.

These are some of the things i have done:

1. I thought it might be start up programs slowing it down. MSconfig and only loaded essential os on boot up. Faster but didn't fix it.

2. I made sure the OS couldn't shut off the power to the nic. nada

3. I updated the drivers.

The only way it loads up fast is in safe mode. I thought i could figure out which program was stalling the system and shut it off by going to msconfig as normal.

Any ideas?

If it's better in Safe Mode, then it could be the driver.  When you installed Windows 2 days ago, when did you install the driver?

I had downloaded the new drivers that same day. Installed each one separately with its own reboot. I have done this so many times with so many systems but first time with this problem. I thought it could be the drivers too. I uninstalled the network driver and nothing.

Did Windows Update install anything new in the last 24 hours or so?  I mean, in between the last time it was ok and now.  I know it has only been 2 days since you installed Windows, but I still have a nagging curiosity about this right now.

I installed every important update that they recommended and one optional. The one that was optional i uninstalled it to see if that was the problem but after i noticed no change, i just re installed it.

But was anything new installed by Windows Update during the last 24 hours or so?  Was there a 2nd time that Windows Update downloaded and installed things?  I'm wondering if it added something later (like maybe during the last 24 hours or something).

No. I have it set to install any updates manually. All the updates were installed on the same day.

Oh wow.  So, there hasn't been one change that could have caused this.  I don't know what to say now.

I hear you. It's usually startup program that bogs down the startup time. Can't be the router since all my laptops connect right away. I even connected the modem directly to the nic. I have no clue what to do.

Is it an NIC, or is it the onboard Ethernet adapter?
