[Build Log] Amorphous - Silverstone FT02 Watercooling Build - Page 9

LOOOOl I was able to squeeze my thick coolgate with 2 120mm fans on top and 2 180mm fans on the bottom. Temps are great biggrin.gif better than in my haf x. What made my sad is that plastic piece of crap on the top. Few hours after unboxing I realised that small piece of plastic is broken, nex to the screw. Nothong special but it hurts.

This is CLOSE smile.gif

lol thanks for the interest.

Just finished my last final last wednesday, so I was pretty occupied all semester with classes.
Also ran into some money troubles (bars are expensive ): )

Working full time again now, will probably grab the EK CSQ 7970 full cover block (no backplate) some time in June.

Mining + 7970 created a pretty nice space heater in the colder months, but now its consistently 70+ here in NYC.. time to drown the GPU.

EDIT: Also thinking about replacing the bay res with an EK D5 CSQ pump top + Aquacomputer Aqualis reservoir, and have the reservoir mounted in the drive bays with a custom acrylic window.
Need to decide if I want to devote the money and effort for a purely cosmetic change though.

Also the first thing that came up in my mind when looking at your old case was, what is this blasphemy. I had the LC-402 when I was 14 although that was in 2006.

MS-Tech LC-402 vs Raidmax Scorpio

hehe... those almost look like before and after images of my case!.. I started off ten years ago with the black/ red panel.. I have painted it (the red panel) green, painted case from gloss black to satin black (matches front panel material/texture better), changed the power LED to a green one (from blue), the side fan had red, yellow, and orange led's in it, I changed it out for a green LED fan, cut a 120 fan hole in the front (had barely breathable holes for 4 80's) cut out the rear 80mm fan holes, painted the inside satin black, modified the front fins for better airflow (and so you see the green glow from front fan..lol) I was thinking of cutting it up to fit the psu in the bottom.. but that wouldn't look right with the components up that high in the window.. so I'm thinking building a pedestal to fit the psu in, then cutting 2- 120mm holes in the top of the case. Even after all that.. I'm STILL using the original exhaust fans that it came with (came with Yate Loons!!). By the time I'm done with this beast it will be a Super Scorpio!! This case will probably always be a work in progress.. it has been used for all my main systems.
Cost me about $80 a decade ago.. been a good investment.

Anyway.. I don't mean to steal your thread.. looks awesome!... a name for your build.. "Unfinished" or "Amorphous"

Haha damn thats a ton of work you did to the case. I was lazy and just replaced it after a while.
But yea, cant believe how popular 80mm fans were back then. My case was annoyingly loud, every hole filled with a 80mm. So I think that was a total of 7 fans buzzing away.

lol, "Unfinished"
Amorphous does suit this project though. Mainly since I'm just piecing it together as I go and dont really see a clear end to this lol. I'll use it, thanks biggrin.gif

Welcome!! thumb.gif and thank you I feel honored.

Yeah 80mm fans are so buzzy sounding.. luckily the three that are on here a rather quiet for 80's. I would replace this old thing with something with a more modern design.. but nothing modern looks as good. Also case modding is a labor of love, making something to be more/different than it was to start.

edit: after I get the ped done I think I should really take some pics if it, and post up a sort of after-the-fact build log...lol

Definitely post up some pictures when you're done, I'm interested in seeing how it looks.

And yea I agree, once you start modding a case, you just dont want to let go. Plus, a personally modded case is worth so much more than something off the shelf anyway biggrin.gif

I'm taking it pretty slow with my build. Budget and time issues lol. Definitely will get the GPU under water in June though.
Still debating on what I want to do with the pump/res. Starting to think I should have two D5s in serial, just for redundancy.
