Noctua NF-A15 PWM as case fans. Setting as intake causes noise. Exhaust no noise.....

I bought some Noctua NF-A15 PWM originally not for case fans, but they didn't fit my project. Living in Alaska, returning them was prohibitive (shipping), so I figured I would try them as case fans.

I set them both up as intake, and noticed a rattle type noise. In my trouble shooting, I found that setting them as exhaust there is no noise. It has nothing to do with vertical or horizontal position (one I set as a side, and the other as a top).

Any ideas? This is my first build in about 10 years (who remembers Cyrix? smile.gif Wasn't a bit deal before, but now that I am running Crossfire 7950's, the top card is getting a little hot. And would love to at least have the side fan as intake.

I'm sure this isn't the case, but since it happened to me recently thought id mention it. Was doing some case modding, moved my rad from top to bottom of the case. fired it up, awful rattle. took apart the push pull set up, checked the fans (thought I damaged one in the transfer). Nothing, couldn't find anything wrong. Set back up, fired on the computer....awful rattle. took apart the rad set up again, took apart the fans, cleaned them...then thought hmmm...maybe wasn't the fan. saw a temp probe from my fan controller near where the rad was installed, took it off, put the rad back, fired on the computer---no rattle. turns out the fan was blowing on the temp probe, so it was hitting hard against the mobo. surprised how much noise that little thing could make!

soooo... wondering if its not the fan, but when you have as intake it's causing something in the case (e.g. temp probe, loose wire, old zip tie piece, etc) to move around.
