My answer, it depends.
A lot of people I've recommended Nexus tablets and Transformers to, end up sitting on a shelf gathering dust. Brother in law bought two Transformer TF101s at 2011 Black Friday for him and his wife. They love their Galaxy S3's and Android apps and games but for some reason they just haven't fallen in love with the Transformers. They gather dust.
Friend bought my Nexus off me at an extreme discount and it gathers dust.
Of course I know two guys that got Nexus 7's that wouldn't part with them if a fire started but I know a lot more with Android tablets gathering dust. The worst part is, all of them don't want to let my ipad go once they get their hands on it. But it's an investment. You cannot side load applications so you HAVE to pay for the quality. You'll easily dump $50-75 in apps alone to get it to the functional use you need. It doesn't even come with weather and a calculator standard.
But trust me, if you get your fiancé an ipad or ipad mini, she WILL love and use it. Without question. Get her a Nexus and there's a chance, not a guarantee but still a chance that it will gather dust.
