because you can? OS X stopped enabling java by default since Lion for this very reason (malware). Windows doesnt come with java.

The only times i've really needed java is supporting people with GoToAssist which relies on Java for installation.

Very few of my 200 users use Java to interface with some web application they have to use. Most of the time they actually dont need it, same goes with probably a lot of people on OCN unless they play minecraft. I've secretly uninstalled really old Java installations (Up until like 6 Update 20 did they actually start removing old versions whenever you updated) and people havent come back saying something stopped working.

Unless they've secretly installed really old Java again (BUT I LIKE OLD JAVA) haha

Or have you given them limited user rights tongue.gif

This is pretty serious if the DoHS is advising the public turn it off. We've never seen a warning like this before from the DoHS. This is a precedent.

As usual, no one reads the details: http://www.us-cert.gov/cas/techalerts/TA13-010A.html

Current issue only applies to Java 7.

If you need Java, but don't want to be vulnerable to these recent exploits, just uninstall Java 7, and install Java 6.

Or ScriptSafe, the Chrome option.

I've been using both for so many years I can't even remember.

at least they'll be forced to grab the latest version from the website.

most users have admin privileges on their primary computer. I disagree with that policy, but I dont run the place. My last project before Christmas was developing our SRP group policy to prevent such things, but being that our DCs are based off of 2003 it's extremely tedious getting everything set up to where the computer is usable and then maintaining the SRP with new hashes. 2008's AppLocker is a LOT easier but we have zero control over our central DC's other than creating GPO and adding/removing users etc (i work in a uni, in one of the many IT depts across campus).
