Files copying extremely slowly

Thread Starter
I'm copying 42GB of music from my storage drive to my main drive and it's going at 100-130KB/sec. The storage drive just started slowing down recently and freezing up sometimes. What's the deal here? This music is practically everything to me and I can't lose it, so I need to get these files copied in case this old drive goes out.

Open up command prompt and type in 'chkdsk (your drive letter): /f' then restart your computer and try again.

Well now I can only get into Windows in safe mode. This is great. I thought only my storage drive was bad but I guess both are.

Just a thought here, but if 2 drives seem to be going bad, isn't it more likely that some other hardware is causing issues?

I should have mentioned that I thought it was ram before. I pulled out 1 stick and everything worked. Got another kit and it's doing the same thing again. Have tested different sticks in different slots. I can't even get into safe mode this morning so I'm stuck on my phone.

What to you mean you cannot get into safe mode? I mean what is it saying, if anything?
