RAM Upgrade for OC

Thread Starter
Need some help here,
I went to the dfi.com website <http://www.dfi.com.tw/Product/xx_product_memory_us.jsp?PAGE_TYPE=US&INDEX_TYPE=M B&CATEGORY_TYPE=LP&SITE=US&PRODUCT_ID=2840> which states the recommended memory for overclocking and gives DDR 500 DDR 533 and DDR 550. But when i go to the specs website it states the highest speed my MOBO can handle is the PC 3200 (DDR 400). My question is what RAM do i need to buy to give me the best OC? right now my Kingston DDR 400 is stock at 200mhz..and is really holding me back from getting higher than 2.5ghz on my 3000+ venice. I want to be able to OC with a 1:1 ratio and hit around 2.7 with my setup. Also i'm looking to get 2GB of whatever ram you all suggest.

Any help is appriciated!

The DDR400 is the published "Standard" being the MBs are certified to run that correctly. However, most any OCable 754/939 MB can and does surpass DDR600 speeds.
Recommendations... DDR400 with tight timings to allow for higher speeds of DDR 500ish
Not a lot of DDR 500 out there anymore in 2x1G.
Some possibilities for you...
May or may not hit DDR500 speeds..

Theres some descent prices on DDR here,

http://www.tankguys.biz/memory-pc4000-c-46_86_93.html

The price of ram has shot up within the last few months, I paid less than 150$ for mine back in March and the last time I seen it on newegg it was up to 190$.

Ram prices aren't likely to drop either... in fact, we're going to have to up our DDR2 prices again in a week or two here. IC prices are still really high unfortunately

RAM isn't getting cheaper especially for DDR.. I better get my 2GBs quickly! Think prices will drop during Christmas?

I don't think so. It's possible though - I haven't got a crystal ball

However, I don't imagine it will happen. DDR production has slowed down due to the transition to DDR2, thus causing demand to nearly outstrip supply... so no downward pressure on price there.

For DDR2, quality IC prices are still high, so memory integrators are paying top dollar for the chips they put on the sticks, forcing the retail price of said sticks to remain high. From what I understand, prices aren't slated to drop any time soon, and the D9GMH chips are supply constrained at the moment (partially why prices are high).

So again, it's possible they'll drop or that some retailers will run some sales, but I don't see the wholesale pricing of DDR or DDR2 dropping in the near term.

Actually, those prices @ Tanks are fair and those are some very good options for DDR
