Programs not showing in add or remove programs

Thread Starter
Hello there,
My friend contacted me today asking about his PC not showing all of his programs in the add or remove programs area, I researched it a bit as I have never had this problem myself, and I have seen that it can be caused by installing programs with a short registry key?
He doesn't know what to uninstall though, is there any fixes for this?
His operating system is Windows 7 Home premium x64

If the program didn't install uninstallation info, or didn't do it correctly, or it was removed some other way, then it's not going to show up in add/remove programs.

He can either uninstall stuff manually, which I do not recommend for someone not familiar with the registry, or he can reinstall the program on top of the current install, then run it's uninstaller.

No it's not that, it's that his programs that were installed and showing in Add or Remove programs are now gone, but he can still run them perfectly, they just aren't showing in Add or Remove programs

Did he do anything to the Registry, like run a Registry Cleaner of any kind?

I would say that's the cause, but I don't know enough to know what to do right now.  However, I think people will be recommending Malwarebytes:  http://www.malwarebytes.org/

This is what I was assuming when I made my post...

The uninstall registry info is gone, but the programs themselves are still there.

Could very well be.

I would scan for and remove all traces of the malware/virus, then reinstall the programs missing add/remove information.

Doing a scan after the malwarebytes has finished downloading, will let you know how it goes after
