Drilling cavities without any anesthetic actually isn't bad at all. I had it done once.

There you go.
Actually it is all based around one person. It's all based around you. You create everything with your mind including other people and their opinions and these conversations on here.

The point about the cavity went way over your head. When you're numbed up pain does not exist when they drill at your teeth. Try asking your dentist to drill at your teeth without local and see the response that you get LOL.

"Things" only exist because your mind creates them.

I don't think you understand what "exist" means. Just because you can't perceive something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. If I die, the world isn't going to stop existing.

Perception != existence.

This is why I stopped with astronomy for a while, the 'no bigger than an ant on a universal scale' thing got to me, hard.

No bigger than an ant on the scale of the universe? You're feeling very egotistical today. More like no bigger than a sub atomic particle

One important postulate- we exist because we're here talking about it.

But that is why I feel it holds weight, as do our perceptions of the universe. Because it doesn't matter if it isn't changed by our existing or our naming or defining of parts of it. What does matter (to us) is how that information affects our view of it, and what we do with it. As does our interaction with any given part of it. I'm really going off on a tangent here, but I think I've clarified what I've said before.

This is also a poor argument regardless. Significance is relative like the universe-- compared to an ant, an atom, or even a dog, we are significant. But compared to a solar system, a black hole, or a neutron star, we are incomprehensibly tiny.

Perception != existence.

Theorists would argue over that one.

If a person dies, does the world exist any more for them?

Sure you can point out yourself, that the stuff exists because you can see it because you aren't the one dead.

What if you died, would the world exist anymore to you?

It's basically a question that cannot possibly have an answer because no evidence can exist.

Much like "If a tree fell and no one was around to hear it, does it make a sound?"

You see other trees fall and notice the sound, but you didn't see that particular tree. So in that specific case, the answer is... unknown.

Well, I tried to put it in scaling that made sense to me, since I'm no astronomy student and really only had that to contribute, since saying "interesting article" is often met with great(er) rebuke...

edit: "but ay, 'is cool 'doe."

Yo mama so fat, she qualifies as an extrasolar planet.

I hate that argument. It's just an attempt at being philosophical for the sake of being philosophical at the expense of common sense.

The world will continue to exist after I die, regardless of the fact that I'm no longer here to perceive it. Me dying isn't going to cause everything to cease to exist.

Unless the whole world is just a figment of my imagination, but I don't think that's the case.
