do ATI gpus 'prefer' AMD processors and nVidia Intel?

So ya when ever I see benchmarks its always with everything constant except for one part.

i.e. if you're testing a gpu you choose a cpu intel or amd and then benchmark, vice versa to benchmark cpu

my question is would you get better performance with a ATI gpu while using an amd cpu then you would using an intel?

and vice versa better performance with a nVidia using an intel instead of an AMD

I hate to say it... and I may get flamed... but pretty much any GPU will run better with it's paired with an Intel processor frown.gif They are much faster, at an architectural level, then AMD.

That said, an AMD processor paired with a Radeon card will perform just as well, for generally less cash. But Intel still has the performance advantage overall, especially when you start adding more and more card to the equation (I don't know if it's just the speed or chipset flaws where AMD can't manage to run SLI/Crossfire as well as an equally clocked i5/i7).

Sounds like a Flame war about to start.

But once you elieveate the bottlenecks in the system, then no it wont make a difference. Some scores will vary depending on single threaded vrs multi threaded. Unless its a cpu driven app.

I would look more at the performance of the processor itself than pairing it with the same brand GPU

I've heard arguments that it's "smoother" when paired AMD/AMD or Intel/Nvidia but it seems like smoke and mirrors IMO

I know but topics like this is easy to become one. I hope it dosen't.

Just cause you get more fps with a 7870 powered by a intel cpu over a amd cpu, that dosent mean the gpu is better. It means the intel cpu is doing a better job at the work then amd.

it depends on the CPU. an intel pentium isn't going to outperform an FX-8350 even if your gaming, even if it's downclocked, and even if that pentiums an SB. But the i7 will. it's not about speed that way, it's about speed per $. to compare amd and intel that way:

$80 Intel-PentiumSB AMD-A6. = Intel gets it's ass kicked.
$100-$130 Intel-i3. AMD-A10/FX4300. = Intel comes closer but still gets it's ass kicked.
$150 Intel-lockedi5. AMD-FX6300 = Intel gets it's ass kicked
$170-200 Intel-i5k AMD-FX8350- while Intel matches/small bit better gaming, overall gets it's ass kicked.

$250+ AMD can no longer compete.

for the high end AMD can not output the kind of power needed to match the i7s. but they don't price that way. in every bracket they price in, they are the better choice. Will get flamed, but >$250=Intel <$250=AMD
