[Will fix] Allowed memory size exhausted

Thread Starter

  • What happened?

I was just browsing the forums and checked a couple "larger" threads and got this error.

  • Are you able to reproduce this problem consistently?
I tried on both the latest firefox and IE.

  • What steps did you take to reproduce this problem?
I went to the main forum and clicked on the thread and opened it up in a new browser.

  • What action did you expect to occur when this bug appeared?
    To view the thread?

  • Any additional information that will help us diagnose the issue:

  • Browser, active browser addons, and operating system:
Latest firefox and IE. Windows 7 Professional x64

  • URL where the issue occurs:

    http://www.overclock.net/t/1347005/win-your-ultimate-rig/0_100
    www.overclock.net/t/1347012/win-a-ducky-keyboard/0_100

Basically any big thread right now it's doing it for me.

I can confirm this error, just received it when trying to view http://www.overclock.net/t/1347005/win-your-ultimate-rig/0_100#post_18998063 and it is repeatable. It also throws a few others on refresh:

I can confirm this as an issue with the same reproducibility steps as above. Moved to the correct section for attention.

Noted. This issue is in queue for me to verify and file if found to be a bug. Thanks for the report!

So I just went and tried to reproduce this. I didn't have any luck seeing the error message to display. I have tested on the following system combinations:

Win 7 / IE 8

Win 7 / IE 9

Win 7 / FF 17

Win 7 / FF 18 (beta)

Win 7 / Chrome 24

I did this as a logged in and logged out user. I would refresh and skip pages of the thread to see if they load. Each time, the thread loaded correctly and without troubles. Would anyone happen to have a live screencast of this bug and if so, could they post it to show how to reproduce it? Thanks!

Ah, there's the difference. That's why I couldn't reproduce this because I have my settings at 8 posts per page. I'll give it a shot again. I have a funny feeling that we've already have this in our reports as an issue we're fixing but I'll have to confirm. Thanks!

So this issue has long been a problem and we're still working on ways to improve it. Basically, when pulling up 100 posts on a large thread, that's what causes the memory error. The only immediate fix to this is to lower your post count to under 100 posts per page to avoid seeing that error. Otherwise, this is a backlogged issue that will not receive a live fix any time soon.
