Not sure how you feel bout the note 2 but it's probably the best phone out right now. If your stuck on a smaller phone, maybe get a nexus 4 since you can buy one out right for 350$ and its got the best processor out so far next to the note 2. Galaxy s3 was old when it came out unless you get the international version with the quad core.

The sony phones are total crap. The UI is very ugly and laggy. The HTC One X's screen craps all over the sony screens and all this "bravia" nonsense is bogus.

I suggest the OP to look at the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

If not, my opinion is either look at the Samsung Galaxy S3 or the HTC One X and decide for yourself.

The HTC One X still has the best screen on the market, except for the HTC Droid DNA but that has poor battery life.

The HTC Droid DNA technically has the best screen on the market because it has an SLCD 2 screen (superb brightness and the best LCD screen) and 1080p resolution (440PPI).

Just don't get a sony phone.

not so big on the note just because the screen is so large it results in a huge phone. the S3 or one X is probably the largest phone i would like. i like smaller phones but a ~4" screen is plenty.

get the S3 baba
Hello~ First post, but I signed up from being a lurker to help provide some help. smile.gif

First things first, AT&T currently offers both the One X (1.5ghz) and One X+ (1.7ghz) which is a spec upgrade and Jelly Bean update.
I had the International One X with Tegra 3 so it's not exactly the same as the US Qualcomm S4 variant.
Regarding why they chose to use a different processor, AT&T said it's because of radio compatibility to make the phone's compatible with LTE.

I'll be using these for references to the phones
S3 (Samsung Galaxy S3)
1X (HTC One X)

Having used both phones for an extended period of time (6 months each), i would choose the Galaxy S 3 over the 1X.
TouchWiz is so much more polished than Sense. There's less lag overall in system usage and it just feels a lot faster because of that.
Personally I changed from the 1X to the S3 and couldn't go back.
I ended up giving the 1X to my gf and the S3 to my mother.

Differences:
S3 Camera has better quality than the 1X and more features as well.
S3 has nicer looking widgets to add to the home screen. A lot of the Samsung apps I find to be more useful than HTC's
S3 has already gotten the latest Android Update. I believe the 1X is still on Ice Cream Sandwich. <<
AT&T Jelly bean update is done via KIES which you download online from Samsung I believe.
I believe the 1X would be done via OTA download, but i'm not too sure..
1X does have a better screen just like everyone else has said.
I feel the 1X is more durable though. I've dropped mine numerous times and no damage, but i've seen friends drop their S3 from a height lower than where I drop mine and their screens spiderweb cracked.
S3 has a microSD slot in conjunction to the 16/32gb of built in memory while the 1X does not have the microSD slot.
S3 feels plasticky and too light, so build quality feels cheap. (This is a personal preference, and a lot of people do like the feel of the phone)

Because you might be rooting later on, I'd add some small, very basic, info on rooting and unlocking bootloaders.
Again the One X's experience is based on the International one. AT&T's One X and One X+ might be a little bit different.

S3 Experience - Custom Rom Flashing:
Basically you ODIN/Heimdall (a exe.program you run on your computer while S3 is connected) everything for S3.
1X Experience - Custom Rom Flashing:
On the 1X have to ADB a boot.img file every time you want to flash a new Rom.

S3 Experience - Rooting/Unlocking Bootloader:
There are ODIN/Heimdall files which are super easy to use to unlock bootloader and root the S3
1X Experience - Rooting/Unlocking Bootloader:
There's a toolkit that helps you unlock bootloader and root the 1X. This process is easier than ODIN/Heimdall

Misc S3 Info:
You can also SIM unlock (for free) to sell the S3 for more value when reselling on fleabay or craigslist.
However with flashing custom roms you have a "flash counter" on the S3, which will void manufacture warranty if Samsung sees that you have flashed a custom Rom. There are ways to get around that, but if you screw up then you will brick your device. TriangleAway is what it's called. Its hard to screw up if you follow instructions.

Okay, so that's my 2 cents.
I may not have covered everything, but I tried my best to cover it from a personal usage standpoint.

<<< Edit >>>>
Looking at the other phones on AT&T's website... I would recommend staying away from all of them except S3, and One X. Getting a smaller screen phone from them is kinda like handicapping yourself for future updates, a lot of them seem to be Pantech, LG, and Motorola whom haven't shown ideal updates to the Android OS.
Unlocking/Rooting a phone from Motorola is a pain. I hate it, and their lack of updates have made me boycott Motorola phones and never buy them ever again.

Also you can get the Nexus 4 from Google if you didn't want to extend your contract, but no LTE or micro SD, worse picture quality, and screen. It is AMAZINGLY fast though.
<<< End edit>>>>

What I really suggest is going to a store and comparing each of them side by side.
After all what matters in the end is your happiness and not everyone else's.

Best Regards,
lilhugo
