Need to get a new phone - Page 2

Tbh I would wait until the s4 comes out if you can, that phone looks insane with a flexible display if they keep true to the rumors and a new exynos processor.

thanks a lot for all the info lilhugo, i have been leaning toward the S3 and it seems you did also..

i wish there was more info on the s4. some of the rumors sound really nice but they are still rumors. it seems its also 4-6months away from release and will probably still be $300+ with my upgrade discount

No problemo~
I learned it all by being a cell phone junkie...

The S4 specs sound great, but the only thing that's really a given is the new exynos octa-core processor. Other than that rumors are always rumors. Remember any iPhone rumors? None have been exactly right.

Also gotta remember that international one comes out first, then carrier versions. So if the phone were to come out internationally in March, expect it to be on the Big 4 (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-mobile) around July. Thus it's better to get the best you can get now, because it's going to have to stay usable for 2 years. I learned that the hard way.

My votes for the Nexus 4. You can buy it off contract, decide to change? You can still upgrade and sell your Nexus 4.
Great phone in terms of development and stock feel.

I agree on the Nexus 4. Best phone/specs for price. No LTE currently working YET (ever?) on AT&T though, but you do get 3G i believe.
The only problem is the wait for one to come in.
I've ordered my intl cell phones from plemix and expansys-usa. They generally have pretty good prices on their phones.
Know that if you get an intl phone you sometimes don't get the smoothest experience due to network compatibility. My One X doesn't allow me to get better than EDGE data and MMS on T-Mobile.
The nice thing is Expansys tells you what the phone works on and what frequencies it supports. So that means you'll know if you at least get 3G with the phone.

Edit:
There are ways for you to use your upgrade towards buying an international phone, but it's a really shady and backdoor way that you gotta go through. Typically it involves third party stores that are authorized resellers. You can do it this way, but sometimes the prices won't even be worth extending your contract for it.
i.e.
phone outright is 800
backdoor is 730

Inventory should be stable around February time.

Reasons to not get a S3? I can list you many of them
- S4 is around the corner.
- S3 is still on 4.1.2 (assuming no custom ROMs are done) but will most likely get 4.2.X later. Nexus devices tend to get OTAs faster than everybody else and is on the top curve when it comes to ROM and Kernel Development.
are one of the many I can think of. Don't get a S3 because someone told you to get it. Do research on your own and find out what best suites you.

If ROM and Kernel development is important to you, the nexus is a no brainer.
If stock pure Android is important to you and you don't want to flash custom ROMs, kernels... nexus is a no brainer as well as Nexus devices' OTAs are handled by Google themselves meaning you don't have to wait for approval from the carrier as well as waiting for Samsung to manufacture a port of TouchWiz over to that particular device.

If you need a device with storing your whole music library and multimedia.... Nexus devices aren't for you as they don't have expandable storage. If you do lots of traveling, Nexus can do you well as it is a pentaband phone and works on practically every GSM network worldwide.
