Windows 8 multiple monitor issue, all my windows move to primary display after displays have entered standby...

So I'm having a really weird issue that I sometimes had on Windows 7 and have no idea how to fix.

I have three monitors in a typical configuration, the centre display being the primary. I typically have various windows and apps open on each display. My problem is that when I leave my computer for a bit, my monitors go into standby and 75% of the time, when I wake them, all my windows and apps have been moved to my primary/centre display, as if my secondary and tertiary displays disconnected or something.
I then have to reorganize everything and it is extremely frustrating sometimes. I have no idea what could be causing this and leaving my monitors on 24/7 would be a pretty big expense after a while. Has anybody else encountered this problem? Is there a proper way I can fix it or at least troubleshoot it? I honestly can't think of what would be causing this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, guys!

I'm experiencing the same thing, even with 8.1 preview. I'm working from a laptop with an nvidia card running 2 monitors plus the built in one. Whenever I log back in, if the 2 external monitors have had a chance to sleep, then everything is moved to the main screen. Occasionally I even have to go back into screen resolution and extend my displays again. Very frustrating considering I'm a developer and I usually lock my computer with my IDEs laid out in a certain fashion.

Wow, I forgot about this thread. I believe the issue, in my case, is that I'm using two monitors on DVI and one on HDMI. The HDMI display seems to act like a PnP device, so when it goes into standby my computer doesn't see it anymore since it thinks it's off, or was at least off briefly, so it arranges everything as if my desktop momentarily reverted back to a single monitor. If your setup is similar to mine, I'd try swapping to all DVI connections.

In my case I have the built in monitor and two DVI connected monitors through the laptop dock. The problem may be because the laptop has two video cards. One for the built in monitor (Intel HD) and one for the two external monitors (nvidia 5200). It may be dropping the power to that video card and just not picking it back up fast enough on login. Not sure of that though as it worked fine on win7.
