They'd possibly program it to inform you that it can't find anywhere to park and then the app would let you pick what you want it to do (keep looking / drive to a certain place / come pick you up again).

So letting my $100,000 car drive into the middle of god knows where on it's own, amongst crazy a** drivers completely out of my sight and just ******* HOPING it will return to me at all let alone without dents and scratches is supposed to be stress free?"

I was just thinking the same thing. The concept is awesome, the people surrounding my car as it ventures alone, not awesome. I'm paranoid enough parking my car in my workplace's locked parking lot.
Where I live when somebody sees you backing up out of a parking spot, they keep going, no matter how far out of the spot you are. I'd give it 2 days before somebody runs into my car.

Insurance companies would have a field day with this.

How will it not find a spot in a parking mall? That sounds a bit odd specially since it can just go far, far away where one normally wouldn't park due to walking back to the mall

Does this work in urban area such as a city?

What if a tail light goes out and a cop wants to pull it over tongue.gif

I don't expect to see this in the market any time soon.
Too many variables.

I think it's appropriate to mention that the system works by electronically and wirelessly communicating with a computer in the parking garage so that a space is reserved for the car. The parking garage computer, which is linked to ultrasonic sensors throughout the garage, helps guide the car into the correct position. The car itself is not driving completely automonously; it's being assisted.

So while that eliminates most of the worries, it likely also means that very few parking garages will have this technology implemented, and, those that do will most likely be restricted to self-parking cars.
