I'd take it over a Florida native in that snowstorm any day of the week. Cherry picking adverse conditions is just as legitimate as cherry picking drivers completely unfamiliar with those adverse conditions.

True but the point is that self driving cars need to be able to handle all driving conditions. Also one would hope that the "Florida native" would have the sense to realize that he/she is unable to drive in the said conditions. Common sense is on the other hand is one of the most difficult things to program.

Sure, but the average computerized car as it stands is safer than the average human driver. The extremes of the bell curve to not invalidate the center.

Yes but the average human driver statistic includes accident caused by extreme weather conditions the computerized car statistics do not as they have yet to undergo extensive testing in such environments.

Accidents are way more likely to happen in extremes especially big accidents. Would you ever see this happening on a sunny Florida day. Big pile ups like thees really bring the human average down a lot.

But remember that this technology is being used for parking garages equipped for this kind of technology. Such garages and parking lots would probably have electric barriers and assisted parking that would make the parking as seamless as possible. Such parking lot would only be used for autonomous cars.

First, I would imagine some sort of cuing system would need to be implemented that would check for in-coming and out-bound cars.

Second, a terminal that would house the sort of commuting power that is needed. The terminal would be used for the cuing cars, assist with parking, and actual driving in and out of the garage. I would assume that it would be impossible to map every garage and parking lot, so the garage and parking lot would need to provide their own digital map. The terminal's map would have every parking slot mapped and based on its sensors, would know which slot was open and closed.

Third, the car's GPS system would sync data between the terminal and the car itself. The GPS would pull the map from the terminal following strict directions to the available slot (note: that the car wouldn't go slot to slot finding a spot, since the terminal already has assigned the slot).

Maybe this will clear things up.

I've seen worse crashes than in your video just east of Seattle in lighter snow conditions. The problem isn't the extreme conditions, so the computerized cars would still do better. The problem is people's poor driving habits in general, extreme weather or no. Sure, computerized cars need a bit more time and slightly better traction/speed coding before they're great in the worst conditions. They're still likely better than the average person in those conditions. People are simply bad drivers.

If it's completely automated, audi should be the one responsible for it if it had an accident, otherwise it will be pretty hard to convince consumers that this car's automation is perfectly safe.

Even if I have lots and lots of money and can afford to buy this car, I would not trust the automation if its not guaranteed by audi
