Help pushing ASUS 7970 ref past 1150 core

Hey all

I've been trying to push my 7970 but kept hitting a brick wall over 1125-1150 core but i get artifacts in skyrim after going over 1150. Temps are ok with a steep fan profile looking further into this i see that the vddc in hwinfo stays at STOCK 1.170V despite upping it to 1.250 in Asus gpu tweak. My card is a reference ASUS 7970 and i thought these were able to hit 1.3V I've tried in modded trixx as well and that didn't work and when using MSI ab it artifacts at stock speeds. Any help would be appreciated. Maybe i just got it completely wrong and 1150 core is the highest i should expect from my card @ 1.250V

Also whats the deal with the power target % should that be at 20 or 0? Currently got it on 20

**edit**
so played around with the power target % and used the gpu-z sensors at -20 offset the vddc bounces around 1.180 to 1.190 but at 20+ offset it 1.127 to 1.137 dose that mean i should set it to -20 offset to get a stabler over clock? I'm assuming this may all be that vdroop thing some of you more experienced guys talk about.

I went through 3-4 HD 7970's in the past and the best one would do 1240mhz core rock stable at 1.264vc. All the others would fall flat on their face after 1150mhz to 1180mhz core regardless of how much voltage was pumped through them. Its interesting to note that my best overclocker was the one I purchased as soon as the HD 7970's launched, I believe over time a lot of the manufactuers find ways to cut production cost by user components of lesser quality which in turn would likely effect the overclocking potential.

Yea i was afraid of that how far are you able to push mem on the cards that wouldn't go past 1125? I've got mine on 6700 at the moment but see an occasional thing or two not sure if artifacts or bugs from mods/drivers very small things nothing major like artifacting when you oc the core too much.

The fact may be that you have reached the limits of your card. I have had 2 7970s (HIS iceqs) and neither would even do 1050. Memory would not overclock at all, period. I know I got unlucky, but I think the overclocking abilities of the later 7970s have dwindled.
