EVGA GTX 670 4GB SC getting really hot in game 88c!!!!!

Thread Starter
So trying not to sound completely like a moron, but it seems rather hot, from the info I got googling. In the game skyrim it gets insanely hot up to 88c. I am astounded at how hot its getting my card. I am pretty sure the GPU is not at 99-98% either, as Bethesda games make that almost impossible. Namely just fallout and skyrim.

I wish I could tell you the stats but any in game monitoring just crashes my game as I am using ENB and almost 20-30 mods and heavy textures. So I cannot use in game monitoring. I cant even have it in the back ground as it just refuses to start the game.

Any ideas on a work around to track usage and clocks in game?

Also, I will be testing Metro 2033, and Crysis 2 in a bit after I download them, to see if it get this hot. Either way it does not seem normal, I had the exact same reference cooler from EVGA on my 660TI and it never got anywhere near that crap.

Any ideas am I having a dumb moment, and missing something?

88c isn't THAT bad. It's not great but it's within the operating temperatures. What are you ambient temperatures?

What's your and Fan%?

670 does run hotter than 660 Ti, and 670 SC(9.5" long)'s ref 670 cooler are weaker than the ref 680 coolers used on 670/660Ti FTW (10" long standard 680 PCB). But in your case it is probably a really hot chip plus the heastink (Loose screw somewhere) not properly contacting the Chip. I'd just RMA the card with EVGA and get a new one to see if it fixes the issue.

Replace stock TIM. 88c at under 99% is bad especially at only 75f ambient temp. That or the fan curve isnt adjusting.

on my friend's computer, i cut out two holes on the side panel for some 120mm intake fans.

and make sure your fan curve is set to above 90% at 90 degrees.

RMA is a bit of a overreaction at this point I think.

So when I am playing skyrim I cant set fan speed because all monitoring programs makes ENB mods crash. So It is running at a low fan speed or whatever Nvidia or EVGA tells it too. Is this soley responsible for high temps?

I played about 5 min of metro 2033 with custom fan profile and never got above 62c.

Then that seems to be insufficient fan speed during Skyrim, I'd just run Heaven 3.0 everything maxed in a 30 miniute loop to see what your max temp is, if that checks out OK then it is a fan control issue.

I did as you said. max temp in heaven after a 30 min run was 64c

If its just a bad fan profile stock why would they do that?

Also, how do i work around this to keep skyrim nice aand cool.
