Did XFX Ripoff My RMA? - Page 4

They will usually tell you before they ship you a different replacement card. When they have tried that with me I have argued why the replacement was a step down and got them to offer me a higher end card then their first offer. That is what you should have done. Now that you have it it may be hard to get them to give you something better.

I don't buy XFX cards anymore though, they are too cheap and a lot of their non-stock products kind of suck.

EDIT: I just checked and the 6750 beats the heck out of the 9800GT so I don't know what you are complaining about, you got an upgrade.

I tried HD6570 GDDR3 & HD6570 GDDR5.. The latter is about 35-40% faster.
So no. that HD6750 is no faster than a 9800 GT, it is about the same, if not slower in some applications.
Again. A bandwidth starved HD 6570 with GDDR3 is not faster than a 9800 GT.
I understand were the OP is coming from, since they offered a life time warranty (10 years) on the card from the start. They are obliged to give him a better card even if it is at least a few percentages faster, or must perform identically 100%.
It is not a charity, There is an agreement between the seller and buyer , if the card dies they are obliged to replace it with a better card or repair it within this 10 years time-frame.

That's exactly the way I see it.

Usually cards that come with a lifetime warranty are a little more expensive; I paid that premium.

It's not beyond amazing that they honored it, that's what they're supposed to do. Not honoring it would be fraudulent.

I would've been happy with the GDDR5 version. But a slightly slower card with less features? C'mon. Still waiting for their tech support to respond.

I asked them what card I would get and they responded with "probably something in AMD's 6700 or 6800 lineup." Next thing I know they shipped the replacement. I didn't get a choice.

And you're probably talking about the GDDR5 version of the 6750. Which is actually the way 6750s are supposed to be; I got a GDDR3 version with half my original memory bus and without xfire. I can't even find benchmarks for it.

Here is something you should find enlightening:

http://www.sapphireforum.com/showthread.php?28793-HD6750-DDR3-1GB-benchmark-results

They are talking about a sapphire card with the same specs. It scored 6293 in vantage with a SB i3.

http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/gigabyte_9800gt/14.htm

Shows the 9800gt getting about 5050 points with a Q9450. Your i5 760 is probably not worth 1200 points of an upgrade even when overclocked.

You should be happy and this should finally put this to rest.

BTW OP some of the lower end cards can crossfire without a bridge. Just something to look into.
Thread Starter
I just got off the phone with tech support.

Basically, all GDDR5 6750s are out of stock, and they would be unwilling to go that high anyways. Even though they're the same price, but w/e.

They also informed me that this 6750 actually does run crossfire through the motherboard, and that a bridge isn't necessary. My only other option if I was unsatisfied with my current card would be to send it back and "wait" for them to "find" another 9800GT.

At least this replacement is still covered under the same lifetime warranty, so I'm just going to stick it out with it. Thanks again for all your help guys.

Its a simple concept, if he purchased a top of the line card with warranty, he should get a top of the line card as a replacement.

If you purchased replacement insurance coverage on a new Corvette, you would not accept a cavalier as a replacement just because somebody says "It has better gas mileage" or "It's actually lighter".

You will in fact want the new Corvette, every time.

Sorry that the OP has to settle.

I wish it worked that way.

On the bright side I did get my card replaced after 4 years. It may not have been what I wanted (or even most comparable), but at least I have a working computer.

It's not my problem XFX decided to offer such a ridiculous warranty. They are also very shady for exploiting a self created loophole.

There are oodles and oodles of insurance companies that are pushing new replacement policies. Total your car, you get a BRAND NEW ONE. You pay for this in your premium, just as the OP did in purchasing that card with an XFX warranty.

Top tier is top tier, regardless if a lower tier card beats it down the road.

I get what you're saying.

Although if you read XFX's RMA policy, they specifically state they will replace the card with one of "comparable performance," regardless of what price you paid for the card initially. So if you originally purchased a $500 4 years ago and today the "comparable card" is only $70, you get the $70 card. As long as it compares in performance to your original card.

My main gripe was the fact that I thought the replacement was non-xfire ready, but that was cleared up. And benchmarks seem to put it ahead of the 98GT, so I'll stick with it and be glad I was able to get it replaces. It could have been worse, like having XFX go out of business; then I'd really be stuck.
