Should I upgrade to Creative Zx?

Thread Starter
Right now newegg is selling the Sound Blaster Zx for the price of the Z at $119.99. Right now I have the Xonar DS hooked up to a Kenwood receiver, equalizer, and amplifier. This all goes onto my Superlux HD 681s. The main thing the Zx has over the DS would be the built in headphone Amp. But would that even matter with my set-up? It also has the microphone+desktop controls which I could use but don't really need.

So would the Creative Zx be worthy upgrade over the Xonar DS?

Many people would say that anything from Creative is not an upgrade over anything else.

From your setup I assume you use it to listen to music. Have you looked into a DAC?

Well its a decent card and if the price is right why not? Creative's problem is and always will be drivers but for that we have Pax thumb.gif
The Zx is an upgrade from your current card so if you can go for it. If you use a setup like me AV System take a look at the Creative X-FI USB DAC its pretty decent too and cheaper then the Zx

I read a very positive comparison but it was strictly for music listening. Seems more like an audiophile oriented soundcard instead gaming.

Thanks for all the info guys, Unfortunately, I won't be able to get it. Something more urgent came up. So I am saving it for a future purchase idea.

I would say that if I were you I'd be waiting for the ZxR as I would want the biggest upgrade possible, but I'd also wait to find it for under $180 or so, as there's no waythat card is wworth $250... Sorry, not being a hater, but I am in the biz and I see a $55-60 piece of equipment with $10 of gimmicks, and $180 worth of marketing...
