i bought the XFX 7870 for $293 frown.gif same price as the reference PowerColor HD 7950. but again they were out of stock.

Also to add (I just read your last post) - XFX don't exactly make the best coolers and the 7870 isn't as good as the 7950 especially given the price. I would just sit on your 5850 and get a 7950 when you can. Maybe putting a few $$$ aside a week to get a good aftermarket cooler or just a better 7950? smile.gif
ok. so the noise is normal for this card? i will try to record a video to let you guys hear it. it's really annoying cause i never had this noise with my 5850 TFII even at 100% fan speed.

7950 gets a higher raw framerate, 660Ti has generally lower frame latencies, making gameplay look smoother.

I started with a 7950 but it was faulty, and they didn't have any of the same card in stock so I replaced it with a 660Ti. The 660 runs cooler, haven't noticed any other differences.

Older drivers, but a good comparison.

Yeah, but you've got to remember the 7870 comes at 1GHz+ usually 1.1GHz or so. Put a 7950 at 1.1GHz and it will beat a 7870 easily. You've also got to account for the extra vRAM and being able to get three or four of them as opposed to two 7870's

tried testing and playing bf3 operation swordbreaker ultra settings using 12.10 and 12.11 beta 11 to see if there's really a difference between them. here's what surprised me

12.10 - 42fps avg
12.11 - 58fps avg

wow amd really improved their drivers. so i guess the 7870 and 660 Ti are pretty much similar on performance right?

Older drivers, but a good comparison.

the problem with that comparison is its the older 800 mhz HD 7950. the HD 7950 boost is available for the same prices and is 25% faster than HD 7870.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/HD_7950_X2_Boost/28.html

1920 x 1200

HD 7870 - 80
HIS HD 7950 iceq boost - 100

this is with power control at 0% and clock throttling. max out power control to +20% and then at the same clocks HD 7950 is 3 - 6% slower than HD 7970.

OP the XFX DD cooler is not a good choice. the Gigabyte Windforce, Sapphire dual x, HIS Iceq, MSI twin frozr, ASUS direct cu have much better coolers.

is that USD 293. if it is thats a ridiculous price. get a refund if you can and grab one of these cards. excellent HD 7950 cards with good coolers. comes with 3 free games.
