[Ars] Have your cake and then squirt it out of your body with new stomach pump - Page 11

anorexia and bulimia get a lot of press and they are serious issues.

but, in the us, they pale in comparison to the obesity problem. anorexia affects about 1% of the population, while if demographic trends continue 60% of the population will be obese in 20 years (i think, though might be sooner than that.)

we need to stop worrying so much about offending people and make some serious changes

it's (mostly) not a matter of genetics.

Trends obviously won't be maintained. The obesity issue is pretty much being attacked from all sides now, and it's only ramping up. It's only a matter of time before things plateau and start going the other way with all of the awareness and (gulp) big brother stepping in. I'm not much a supporter of the government regulating every little thing we do, but I'm on the fence with this one to be honest.

I don't know how well this would work since your brain and stomach need to communicate with each other to give you the "full" feeling. I would imagine that if people pumped out food immediately after eating that they would not get the sense of "fullness" that most people get. I would think that you would need to let the food sit for awhile, in which you would be discharging partially digested food. But I could not see the people that woulod use this device doing so, which would lead them to discharge food as soon as it wa seaten thus defeating the purpose and causing them to eat again due to feeling hungry
